Need help shipping a 40 ft bus

I’m a Black woman and I’m scared to drive it across the U.S. I don’t feel safe.

I bought it professionally converted and had it shipped from the West Coast to this farm a few hours outside Chicago.

I’ve only been out there once. The owner of the farm doesn’t seem too friendly in person and he hasn’t responded to my texts or calls — I need to pay him for another few months.

I’m scared to go out there again, so I’m going to ask my Catholic godfather (I’m a new convert) if he and his wife will go with me. I don’t feel safe.

I’m moving out to a western state to Teach for America and I’ve looked — I can live in an RV resort out there.

So I want to get it shipped out west ASAP though I won’t technically have to be in my location for pre-service induction until May.

I’d like to get it shipped by Christmas break at the very latest (more like Thanksgiving) because it’s stored outside and Chicago winters are brutal.

(The first time it was shipped, the previous owner took care of the shipping)

Can anyone help me find a company that will pick up and deliver my 40 ft skoolie?

It has been titled as an RV and is registered in the State of Illinois.

It is ready for driving, I just got off the phone with the guy who owns the farm it’s being stored at and unbeknownst to me, he’s been starting it up regularly, so he says it starts up fine every time.

Ideally, I’d love to find someone in the area who can be patient and teach me how to drive it, because shipping is expensive and I believe in the kindness of the bus and hippy community.

The destination is California. It was originally Las Vegas because you can live in an RV park, and I really like the new starting salary as a Clark Country School District teacher in my step/lane but I have more ties to Southern California.

I’d be open to anyone wanting to drive it across the country with me, too. Last time it was shipped they had to take off the ladder, and I just paid $150 to get it put back on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can't find a volunteer, rent a driver and ask if you can ride along.

Large vehicles are typically driven point to point, as its cheaper to rent a driver than an entire semi.

I hired a shipping transport company and asked if they would drive it!

I am thrilled they will, but later when I asked if I could ride along (save $ on my own transportation), they said they used to a long time ago, but you need a chauffeur’s license and this company no longer transports humans.

I’d love to rent a bus driving instructor though!

That's actually a thing, though; so you very easily can.


I would try to start with an RV Dealership, and then move on to some place like Facebook to find one.
