Well I've been perusing these forums for a while now, and I figured with my bus purchase being less than two months away it was tone to join!
My name is Chris, but everyone calls me Bucky. I'm looking to buy a school bus to convert into a solar powered, veg-fueled home on wheels. I've always moved around and traveled a lot, and I look forward to building my own home and living abroad to see more of the world and study cooking everywhere I go.
I hope to get to know this community pretty well and look forward to a life on the road.

I'm also new and looking to buy, but I'm in CA :)

Where are you purchasing from? Any tips for a fellow noob?

Welcome, and unless you have a steady source of oil, you may want to rethink that part of conversion

It is very hard to get a lot of oil nowadays, due to places having contracts for old oil and these pay for used oil

not too far.....

I work in Mariposa. Need a 40 footer to accommodate my needs but am having a hard time finding one that's reasonable price wise. Where did you find yours at?

Well I was bidding on a 67 Gillig on eBay, missed it by $100.00 I emailed the guy & told him if the deal falls thru I'm still interested , he emailed back said the guy paid him in full but next day lost his job so the seller gave him back his money & told me there was a guy that outbid me by $50.00 but he lived in Japan & was trying to arrange shipping, next day got a email telling me it was just loaded on a lowboy and was being put on a ship to Japan, I said my loss if you hear about another gillig or a Crown let me know, 2 days later he sent me a craigslist ad for a Crown from Merced School District next day it was mine

I work in a kitchen, my boss has already promised me oil from the fryers once I have my bus. I asked about starting to collect some the other day and he said "Don't worry about it; wait until you have the bus. I could get you a year's worth of oil in two weeks"

My main go to has been craigslist. I have also found a free local bus sellers, I told them to get in touch with me in June. They seem eager to please, one even started sending me the occasional email about bus conversions and stuff because I mentioned it when I reached out to them.
