read and abide by the sites rules, they are posted to help everyone understand and enjoy using this wealth of knowledge known as Skoolie.net

In the realm that is our world or at least a perceived world; there seems to be a lot of hate, disrespect and general meanness that is messing with everyone's mojo

Just because it seems like the media has turned to applying race and hatred to everything, it will not be accepted on this site...period.

Do not talk derogatorily/mean/hurtful about any person, religion or values

On this site we are about BUSES; we are not about

1)what color you are
2)what race you
3)what your sexual or partnerships are
4)what religion you follow

None of that matters; do not come on here and personally attack any member about anything, unless it's bus related (I jest)

Hey Bansil you were stupid and dumb to buy that RE bus = bad and is bashing

Hey Bansil you would of been better off, buying a FE because.... =good criticism

Can you tell the difference?????

If not reread the rules and read this sticky here:

http://www.skoolie.net/forums/f9/please-read-this-and-take-time-to-ponder-your-response-10896.html

IF you have nothing nice to say...don't say it, it will make your blood pressure lower and it will not offend fellow builders

Lately there has been alot of bashing of the Jewish faith around the world, people grow up and if you don't like what has been said find another forum to to beotch about it on, we will not accept it here

Same with Muslims; Muslims as a whole are good people, find somewhere else to complain

The whole Black on White or White on black, or brown on red...people leave it elsewhere and stick to Yellow chrome number 5 or whatever it is

The language also, this is a family site so the site has good filters in place for most words, and society has down played certain words, phrases and such to be common place...us old farts are still offended at some of them

Also there has been some concerns about using the search feature, yes it isn't the best feature, so use google to search with

AND PLEASE AT LEAST READ THE FIRST PAGE OR TWO BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION,

if really makes it hard to respond when there are 2 or 3 same topics at the same time

(disclaimer: I am not a hippy, and have no bad feelings toward any I know or will meet, smile people and enjoy life and family)

Thank you Bansil & Janet for keeping this site a wonderful & entertaining & informative place for all to go.

I'm 64 years old....I try to see the best in everyone. I don't see colors in people & I could care less about your sexual likings, where you pray or even if you do.

However, and I feel others can relate. While growing up names like Chinks, Canucks, Pollocks, and on & on were everyday occurances and spit out like you were asking someone for a vanilla ice cream.

Most people my age hadn't gotten so comfortable with the language that we heard so frequently from our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles many adults in our lives.

As we got older things started changing and such words started to offend & one by one they were no longer just commonplace and I grew up learning that & in turn passed my teachings onto my children.

I find that my teachings have reached & helped my children & now their children be more socially & morally correct and for that I am grateful.

Now, on the other hand, even 50 or sixty years later I find myself & close friends slip out a few of those no longer acceptable thoughts & names and admittedly I don't correct or comment on because I know that the friends I have chosen do share my beliefs about people but have just had a brain fart or better known as a trip "back in time".

When communicating with "friends" you have only met through written words, many of us need to remember that what people write may not necessarily be what they feel deep inside and as easy as it becomes, especially when you've been on a site with those same people, you tend to "think" you know the people your spending each & every night with here YOU DO NOT. You do not, unless you can say you have spent the time as you do your real friends in life.

That is a hard lesson to learn and I personally have to work hard to just sit back or walk away for a minute & think about what I want to say or write before I hit that "Submit Reply". Oh, and to not publish a lot of the replies I have formulated in my head just cause me to sit here & just shake my head & babble to myself but overall what does matter is that I don't contribute to the crap I see in the TV & hear on the radio.

Sorry for rambling....but I had elaborate and once again say "Thank you Bansil & Janet", we need more people like you in this world.

I am a member of another very large forum that has moderators who use a benevolent hand to delete offensive posts and 'cover' them with code like:

DBAJ = don't be a jerk (which in itself is a bit judgy but it works)
KPSO = keep personal stuff out
etc...
also, those powers allow moderator(s) to move threads to their appropriate forum when the OP puts it in the wrong forum place.

I know we're all adults here, but sometimes one's desire to use a public venue to further one's personal philosophy cannot be resisted or the prejudices in one's brain just leap onto the screen.

I guess I'm saying that if someone had to make this thread, there may be a need for a few extra eyes with delete power (if it doesn't already exist)...I sure hope I'm not helping create the problem...I can have a bit of a potty mouth; learned it from my mom.
you should hear me talking to other drivers..........on the other hand, maybe you shouldn't!

Well put, Bansil! This forum has gotten much better in the past couple years. Folks who have been here that long or longer probably remember the trolling to which I refer. I won't name names, but at least one had a penchant for telling others to "lighten up," etc., but got really ticked when the shoe got on the other foot.

This little tidbit is from The Internet for Dummies, ca. 1996, by John Levine and Margaret Levine Young:
For some reason, it's easy to get VERY, VERY UPSET ABOUT SOMETHING SOMEONE SAYS ON THE NET. (See, it even happens to us.) Sometimes it's a Usenet posting with which you strongly disagree, sometimes it's something you find on the Web, and sometimes it's personal e-mail. You'll be tempted to shoot a message right back at that person.... [All caps by original authors]
They go on by reminding the reader, "[Messages] always come across as crabbier than the author intended, and...crabbing back [won't] make the person more reasonable."

That second part helps me. Also, publications like Writer's Digest often remind authors that "you can't blame the reader." It keeps me out of trouble if (after someone rebukes a message of mine) I back away from the computer and cool off - and realize that more often than not, it's my wording that stated something I didn't mean.:peace:

Levine and Young say that they like to get it out of their system by writing the most acidic response possible, but discarding it rather than sending it. To which I add the caveat that it's best to put it in your word processor so that you don't click "send" by mistake.

I think if an older thread has merit and is not full of back and forth with this is better than this only because it is...those can be used to give out more information

The ones where its just people arguing...leave them buried(I think)

Now there are several good threads that get brought up that need the info updated due to changes in technology etc

example:
If your looking for a new widget and find a 3 year old thread that had the latest widgets and that helps you find a new better widget due to say technology or design revisions, yes bring it up and add to it

That will allow people to see how the widget has progressed to our benefit

Now this one is a pet peeve of mine, yes the search function needs help, also does 87% of the forums, so use google like this :

skoolie.net + wiring + 120v

copy and paste that into google and hit enter

I don't mind answering repeat threads...but honestly 3 or 4 of the same questions on the 1st page :horse3:

I am a caucasian, Italian/Scot, monogamous heterosexual married Baptist male. [phew]

In case you all wanted to know.

I certainly have my strong thought and opinions - but I've found forums to be about the worst place for them. I come here to learn and help if I ever can. My opinions and views I reserve for bad drivers... Haha

How do I change the picture sequence in my folder- can I do that??

Thanks again for the forum- saved me a 200 tow bill plus shop
