Hello fellow Skoolie's!
My husband and I are from upstate NY(Apple Country along Lake Ontario). We purchased our 72 passenger, 2002 International 7.3L T444E on December 11th, 2015. We hit the road two weeks later on Christmas Day! Knowing just about nothing about Diesel engines we had a mechanic look it over and give us a few tips before we left. We replaced the oil and fuel filters, cpl hoses, and a new battery. We took out all but three seats, made a bed frame and added a kitchen counter.
Our goal..."test run to Texas"
We made it to our first stop in Dallas, GA and stayed for a week. Bus ran great and our first week was a success. The next leg of the trip was to take us to Houston, Tx. We made it to Biloxi, Mississippi before breaking down. We attempted to trouble shoot as best we could before waving the white flag for AAA. Beverly was towed to Lafeyette, LA to an international dealer. Replaced alternator and some ground wires and we were back on the road. In the short time we have been aboard Beverly I have felt excitement, anxiety, pure freedom, and udder gut dropping fear. Our families think we were crazy, our friends think we're cool, we, now humbled, know we are neither crazy or cool. We are daring problem solvers at the mercy of our machine! We love our Bus! We wake up and cross our fingers and hold our breath as we watch the world go by our windows. Each day just hope we make it to the next city problem free!

We are all a little crazy here. Welcome aboard, you'll fit right in. Building your bus the way you want it will never really be complete, it is ongoing. It is nice that you got your bus and that you hit the road already. As far as breakdowns they will happen. Then you just fix it and move on, the same as anything in life. If you need help just ask and someone will help you I'm sure. In the meantime enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been using the site as a source since we bought Bev and finally figured out "duh register and join!" I love how helpful and excited everyone seems to be in the Skoolie community! Happy to be in such great company!

Hello fellow Skoolie's!

Welcome to the site, and since you're from upstate do you have any experience with the buffalo area? Specifically Hamburg? I'll be going there for work this July in my skoolie and wanted to know any areas I should specifically avoid around there... Also anything that I should specifically visit?

Hi from just down the road!!

You bought your bus from Dan? (I think that was his name) up in rochester! I spoke with him a few days after you got it (and went and looked at his inventory).

If you ever get back into town, I would love to see what you have done with your bus. We are hoping to get one sometime in the next 6 months and get building.

Not sure about Hamburg, but we have friends in Buffalo that we visit and we mostly go to the cpl places they work. One is called Dougs Dive! Right on the water and they have a huge parking lot. It's a marina too, I'm sure you could park the bus there with no problems. Then there is also a huge casino "Seneca" I think it's called. I'm sure parking there overnight would be allowed too. Have a great trip!

Cool thanks for the info, I just googled Dugs Dive and google says its permanently closed... Bet the parking lot is still open though...

No way!!!!! That's too bad, but most def lots of parking space, the marina I'm sure is still in operation. They may even have a bath house available for the boaters you could use?!?
