Hello, everyone I have viewing this site off and on for over a year. I have always wanted to do a skoolie conversion but I never was in an adequate position to start one. Currently things changed and is significantly doable now with my current situation. I have been looking for a few weeks now looking for my first bus and I have come across a few that stand out to me and wanted to know other options on the reliability of them and the ease of service. I'm looking for a medium sized to larger size bus for extra storage and amenities like a shower and bathroom. I would hate to get one too short and not have enough room for all the plans I'm looking for.

One of the busses I'm looking at is a 2007 Thomas Built Mvp-ef Trim
130 (13 Sections), with a 8.9l In-line Cummins Isl not sure of transmission showing 110,252 miles. Front engine flat nose with hydraulic brakes. The ad says its a 71 passenger bus but I have yet to find pictures of this model with this passenger count. Most of this data I found looking up the vin as the ad dose not really have much information. I have requested more from the dealer and have yet to hear back from them.

Another is 2008 IC Bus Pb105 Ce with a 7.6l International Dt466 / Maxxforce Dt. I have heard bad things about the Maxxforce engines in general but I have also heard that 07-10 models are slightly more reliable then the 10+ models. Looking at a parts site looking up the vin it shows it has an ALLISON XMSN 2500_PTS 5-SP L/PTO L/RETR. the ad says 22k milles on it but seems unlikely. The dealer is selling other busses of similar stats from the same school district showing 150k - 180k miles. 71 passenger with hydraulic brakes.

Last is a Chevrolet B7 Cowl Chassis 7.2l In-line Lg5. The ad says it has a CAT3126 Engine. Not sure on the transmission on this one either. Has 128,771 miles on it, 53 passenger with hydraulic brakes.

All the ads are from the same dealer with not much info listed. Only the 2008 IC has pictures as the other 2 are new listings. I have requested more info on the busses I have listed and am waiting for a call back or reply. So a lot of the info listed comes from looking up the vin number on a couple different free sites. If anyone know of a better site that gives more information on them would be greatly appreciated. I tried to put as much detail as I could so if you have any question please ask so I can clarify. Any addition information anyone has on these listing is great. :Thanx:

From what state are these buses?

The 2008 IC is from Illinois the other 2 are from Missouri. Now that's just where the dealer is located. One of the questions I did ask for all of theses is what school district they were ran in or at the very least state.

Bus hunting...hehehe...so much fun....not!

Whatever bus you pick make sure it doesn't have the AT545 tranny!

You will cry about it later down the road if you do get one!

Keep an eye out for rust. You don't want to spend your first year repairing structural stuff when you could spend that time and money on the 'build'. I'd also recommend air brakes. The system is simple and parts are readily available anywhere.

For sure on the rust, kinda what you get with eastern state use. Living in Oklahoma i never see them rust issues, definitely something to look out for.

The Thomas mvp

Thats the one I would be most interested of the 3 but the dealer still dose not have any pictures listed and have not responded to a request for more information. The dealer is midwest transit equipment, they look reputable but not having pictures on some listings and providing almost no details about the busses has me looking elsewhere.

Look up 'Seth Owens' in Tallapoosa GA's Facebook if you want a rust-free southern bus at a good price. Flipping buses is what he does - some export, some skoolie. He posts his current inventory and can find you whatever you want.

I'm a dognose fan for ease of maintenance and shop repairs. Keeping mechanics out of the interior of your bus will save you a lot of hassle.
