Hi! We are just getting into skoolies for our family of 8. We are getting ready to buy the bus in a couple days and then we will begin the demo and build out. We are planning a cross country trip this August and hopefully many more trips in the years ahead, including (hopefully) a long term multi-year road school trip with our kids to see everything. why not!
Anyone else building their bus with lots of kids in mind?

It sounds like one of those articulated double buses would be about right for a group like yours, but articulated buses are not likely as an RV. I'm sure you could turn around every time you got to an airport.

I've built for a family of 5 but that was 20 years ago, and I've moved on to bigger and better buses. That's great for a large family. It beats the standard passenger van hands down and the fuel mileage is quite similar to passenger vans, but with much more space and hauling capacity.

I'd suggest you take your best shot at purchasing a suitable bus and then try to camp in it right beside the house. Figure out what you need versus what you'd like to have in the bus. Obviously you'd be better off trying this in warmer weather, especially with the kids.

Hi butlerbus. Wow, you've got quite an adventure ahead of you. It sounds so cool. There will so many good memories that the kids will have forever. How cool is that? Can't wait for the pics. Yes we love pics here. It won't be easy but it is lots of fun building your bus your way. Ask lots of questions and enjoy the best skoolie site on the net.
