Hey everyone! I have searched through the forum, and couldn't find this particular issue mentioned (it's possible it's there and I just couldn't find it - my bad, if so).

I just changed out the old headlights on our 1999 Chevy Express G3500 to LED. It was a direct plug in, so no change in wiring. Before the change, the old headlights worked as expected off the turn knob on the dash (OFF, MARKER LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS). Now with the LEDs, as soon as the engine comes on the headlights come on. Knob still turns the marker lights on and off, but the headlights are on regardless of what you do with the selector knob. Only way to get them to go off is turn the engine off. Brights and dims work as they should. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

when i changed my headlights over....

the new lights had a few wiring options to makes sure the headlights work right. it may or may not have had to do with daytime running lights which is what it sounds like you have wired on.

you'll need to find the wires for the headlight socket and your bus socket and match them up.

figure out which one is your daytime running light and dont use it.

good luck

Thank you! That would make sense - I'll do a little digging around with this in mind. Thanks, again!

text me with a skoolie reference and what engine you have to 910-581-7210 and i will share what i have.

Later when you have the info you seek. If it were me I’d ask that the numbers above be deleted or scrambled for security reasons.
Just my two cents

I'd be surprised if you had DRL and didn't know it before the switch to LED lights.

Sometimes with LED's there's enough voltage bleed through on the switch that it can cause them to illuminate with the switch off. Sometimes they'll even flicker/flash rhythmically because of it too.

Whereas incandescent bulbs won't because of the significantly larger amount of amperage required to illuminate.

Use a voltmeter and wiring diagram and see where your stray power is coming from.

PS I hope you installed the correct bulbs and have them adjusted and leveled. Far too many clowns rolling down the road blinding oncoming traffic because of their "upgraded" headlights.
