Hi all. My name is Karla, from Alabama. I have been lurking a couple weeks. No immediate plans to buy a bus but I have wanted to do this since I was 10 years old. I have a file of info I have gathered and the dream continues.

I have a job/career that would allow me to travel and work, moving every 2-3months. Now that my kids are grown the wanderlust is calling even louder.

I ride motorcycles and will be looking for options to store/haul my bike and tools.

I will not post often until plans begin in earnest but I will be here lurking! Thanks for such a great community and resource!

(Side note of useless info: my ancestors were gypsies who came to America from France in the early 1800s. My forum name, "Chitza" is a gypsy name :) ).

Welcome. More than one here used a bus to haul bikes so some of your troubles/questions have probably already been addressed.

Hi and welcome aboard.
I'm just starting my bus. I have a motorcycle too. My plan is to buy a motorcycle ramp and drive it up and in the rear door. I plan to build a contraption that I will drive onto in the bus that will then let me turn it around. If you do a search on line you will see what they look like.
It is basically just a piece of C channel with another piece welded on to hold the kickstand. It has casters on the bottom so it will just spin around in a circle. That way I won't have to mess around backing it out of the bus the next time I want to ride it. After I spin it around I will of course strap it down good. Just an idea you may want to consider.
I will need at least 8 feet of "garage" space and that will give me room to haul other things like an air compressor, propane tanks, toolbox, BBQ grill, generator, water tanks or whatever. I don't have the plan finalized yet.
I know the door is not real high but I'm also going to raise the roof so the height will not be an issue. I will just extend the door higher. I think it should work pretty good.
And in case you were wondering no we are not the same as other people, thankfully. This is a wonderful site and someone will help you no matter what you may need. Good luck.

What you should do is design & build it so all you have to do is ride up into a set of locks get off then the turntable will automatically turn 180 deg.

Hmm. I have a BMW sport tourer. But it only weighs 400#. Most electric wheelchairs weigh around 350#.
Thinking about something like this:
