I have been a long time lurker of Skoolie and this is my first post...
My girlfriend and I are making plans to depart on a road trip in a school bus or converted van in about a year's time. We have been researching and shopping and researching some more. There are a few options on the table so I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself and begin soaking in the wealth of information here.
The bus: We are shopping for a bus or conversion van that I can stand in at 6'3" tall, that can sleep me sideways in the back on a platform, and that can reliably get us from NE Oklahoma to the Pacific Northwest without major issues. Our budget for the van itself is $4,000. Carpentry is not a problem for me and I have access to quite a bit of tools.
We went and looked at a 2000 Chevy 4 window with a 6.0L diesel. It has just over 100k miles and appears to be in good shape, it drove well. What is a fair price to spend on a bus like that? Also, what are some things to look out for when shopping for this particular model. Any help is appreciated!
