New(to me)97 Chevy short bus.

I recently picked up a short school bus with a chevy van cab and a 6.5 diesel.

I have been wanting a bus to convert to a camper for years, just never took the leap until now. I bought it from a church for $500.

Everything seems to work on it and it runs great, not a lot of power but I hear that is normal for a 6.5. It has been sitting for at least two years and I'm trying to run the 3/4 tank of diesel out so I can start with a fresh tank of fuel and some new filters. So far I'm very impressed with the milage It seems to be getting.

I have started removing the seats and they are a pain. Anyone have any suggestions for making the job easier?
I would like to save one seat from each side to face each other for a dinette setup. Has anyone else done this?

I snorted a laugh with a full mouth of cereal when I read "dinette setup. Has anyone done this before?" Most of us have.

Anyways. There are several ways to get the seats out. One method, you need two people, one inside, one out side. Unbolt with wrenches, air tools, etc. Alternatively tighten until the bolts break.

Use a grinder with a grinder disc. Wear eye protection, face protection, skin protection. Recently a member was bit pretty hard by a grinder/cutoff tool. Several gashes, I would not call them cuts. One right cross the face. Super fortunate he did not loose the use of an eye. Lesson for all us, if we are smart enough to listen.

If you have a sawsall , use a long blade with lots of little teeth, and you might be able to lay the blade along the floor and slice under the seat and cut the bolts that way....

If you know how to use one, there is always a cutting torch.
