Hi all! I'm Jesse, live in SE Missouri, and looking to build a skoolie. Found a 1978 Crown I'm considering but the wife wants me to find a finished one to tweak to our liking. This will be an empty nest project, so to speak. I guess my first question, if I may, is is anyone selling their skoolie? Second, thoughts on converting a Crown? I recently became a member of the FB group that cherishes Crowns. I received a warm welcome but with mixed thoughts on the conversation. Any advise before I take the blind leap?

I would recommend not getting one that is already complete and then trying to modify it. You will probably end up with a lot of work removing existing work and changing it to your liking. Its much easier to gut the seats and stuff and then design and build what you want from scratch.

I agree. Start fresh and do it right. If you are doing a Crown, you can't go wrong. Taking over another person's build might double the work.

Another vote for "start fresh".

Crowns are great from what I hear. I've never seen one.

They do have their own quirks that you WILL have to work around/live with.

They're sweet, they're classic. But they're NOT for everyone.

Thanks for the insight. I'm still looking. If I don't do a crown I may consider a Thomas RE

Thomas are good I have one. But Bluebird All American is a real nice bus as is an AmTran Genesis/Ward Senator/IC.

Look for a high headroom bus. Standard height sucks if you want to spend a ton of time in there.
