Hello everyone! I recently acquired a 1998 International School Bus that I plan on using for Ragbrai up in Iowa. I have tried to search for details on relicensing it as an RV and currently looking for insurance to drive it to work on it etc. I do have a CDL and used to drive buses as a teacher (now retired).
I'm curious of the bare minimum required to qualify as an RV in Missouri. I think all seats have to be removed, running water for a sink, toilet equipped, additional electrical to name a few. It has to be inspected by the Missouri highway patrol, with receipts on equipment. Eventually they will install a new VIN number to title it by.
Just getting started on this and lots to learn. I will peruse the forum to see what steps I need to go through to get through the process. If there is anyone on this forum from the Kansas City area that has been through this process, it would be great to hear from you!

Ah, RAGBRAI buses. The icon of the privately owned bus in this state ha ha.

Up here the rules for registration are:
321.1 d. “Motor home” means a motor vehicle designed as an integral unit to be used as a
conveyance upon the public streets and highways and for use as a temporary or recreational
dwelling and having at least four, two of which shall be systems specified in subparagraphs
(1), (4), or (5) of this paragraph, of the following permanently installed systems which meet
American national standards institute and national fire protection association standards in
effect on the date of manufacture:
(1) Cooking facilities.
(2) Ice box or mechanical refrigerator.
(3) Potable water supply including plumbing and a sink with faucet either self-contained
or with connections for an external source, or both.
(4) Self-contained toilet or a toilet connected to a plumbing system with connection for
external water disposal, or both.
(5) Heating or air conditioning system or both, separate from the vehicle engine or the
vehicle engine electrical system.
(6) A one hundred ten – one hundred fifteen volt alternating current electrical system
separate from the vehicle engine electrical system either with its own power supply or with
a connection for an external source, or both, or a liquefied petroleum system and supply.

Iowa State Patrol also requires 51% of the vehicle to be painted a color other than yellow, all "school bus" logos removed, and the red/amber lights reversed, blacked out, or removed.

Sorry I can't help you with the rules south of the border though... good luck!
