Hi! I've been checking out your forums for about a year and a half now. I love all the great conversations and advice in these forums.

I'm hoping to move forward very soon in the purchase of my short bus. There are many but I like the vintage look of one especially. Could you please tell me if this is a bus that would work well for a conversion and a cross country trip?:

84' Carpenter/GMC 20 passenger School Bus with a 6.2 L diesel engine W/ a Turbo 400 Auto transmission. Bus has been well maintained. Runs and drives good.

Other than the description I'll have to send a proxy to inspect it to really know of course. But as a start?

Thanks!!

The chassis under that bus is pretty much identical to the chassis under almost every Class 'A' moho and bread truck made during the '80's and '90's.

It isn't very much truck for the amount of bus on top of it.

If you can get it cheap enough it might work out for you.

But the 6.2L is not much of a powerhouse and what after market support there is for it the upgrades are not going to make a significant difference.

It will be screaming hard at 60 MPH and it will rarely go faster than that.

It would definitely not be at any where close to the top of the list of vehicles I would want to drive across the country.
