That's going to depend on work & whim.. I might head south or west when it gets cold or maybe hang around some years.

Going to have a wood-burning stove for sure with a back-up heat source in the bed-end if required for overnight.

Condensation shouldn't be a big concern if woodstove is the primary heat source, regardless of being in the interior or out to the coast. Even drying out hunting or riding gear inside.

Are you leaving most of your windows in?

Oh, that's good to know! Would like to leave them or a version of them in the living area - more closed in the rear, more private areas that would also benifit from more insulation.

Got a fair amount of time living out of all sorts of non-insulated or partially insulated shelters all over BC and my best investment was a woodstove fab'd up from a 20# propane tank.

I literally JUST had that idea the other day - natch someone else had thought of it previously.. Given the price of some of the mini-stoves that won't last all night I may have someone make me one cos at least it'll then be a cheap stove that doesn't last all night..

If you can find a 30# that would be even better. I'll dig it out soon and take some pics for ya she is pretty plane jane, but she has heated a tri-lam wall tent in a surprise -15 snap we had one year hunting. Wish I had of packed the canvas tent...but we were comfortable, just burned more wood than usual.

Assuming I do all of them. Would like to keep the living area fully-glazed but the shower, toilet and bed-end are probably going to be mostly sheeted with the odd window here and there.

Bed-end should be glass walls and ceiling. Floor too if you're feeling froggy.

I didn't mean for you but labor in general. If you're MIGing TIGing your own frames, then knock yourself out and no rewal worries about how many or cost.

Thanks, though can't figure out why the glass would be 4" less than r-r for one size and 3" less for the larger.. ?

24 and 28 are inside frame (glass). 28 and 32 is center to center of the ribs which includes frame and rib.

I need to get back out to my bus more. You've got me doubting the numbers now. It has been months since I've done anything on it.

Ya, mine are 28 and 35 r-r. Got to see it the other day and they were 25 and 32 frames o/a so 3" for each rib

Have you come across Tiny Wood Stoves and Cubic stoves? Super-compact but expensive and won't run all night unattended. Jotul make some a better size but not too big

The windows don’t perform at all in the winter. They are single pane and cold just rushes through them. Not very drafty either. But the windows aren’t any worse than any other spot on your bus. The whole thing is steel and it will just be cold every where. I ran a coal stove all through winter well below 30°f daily. My thermometer at chest level would read 88° and at the floor would be 35°. The windows aren’t a big concern for condensation. More like your breathing and propane use and cooking are the issue. Because it’s such a small space it will condensate very quickly. Anyone who full times runs dehumidifiers. But you’re moving into a bus so comfort isn’t really your first thought. You’ll live. And you’ll have lots of stories to tell.

I got a Jotul F-100 with 10’ of 6” chimney pipe off Craigslist for $400. It worked good for the one winter I had it in the bus.
I’ve had problems with condensation.
Single pane windows suck! They’re about as insulating as Seran wrap!
I’d say ditch’em and use house windows.

Well you CAN, it's just illegal and a pretty bad idea. Non tempered windows for a home exposed to temp swings and vibration at the same time can break. Also end up as large sharp flying death shards in an accident.

Ok, I'll say it one more time because it seems some people have a problem reading and understanding - no-one ever mentioned putting 'house windows' in a bus (though I did comment that you see them in tiny home trailers all the time)

I was suggesting the use of fully tempered (both panes) sealed double-glazing units (just the glazing bit of a window assembly - glazing and frame) into the openings (in a new metal sub-frame if necessary)

This would be the same glass that is found in car windows - it might not be stamped AS2 (maybe it would, I haven't investigated what's possible) but it would be made to the same standard so no-one would ever be impaled.
