Northwest meetup 2020

Hey Everyone,

I would like to gauge the interest in a NW get together this summer.

Attending the Florida and Arizona events would be great but for a number of us in the Northwest the time commitment to get there and attend is not practical.

I have been contemplating how best to site an event that would be reasonable for ID, WA and OR skoolies to attend.

I can host here in Dayton and have hookups available. The downside is that I am kind of out in the sticks.

An alternative would be to find a central spot that would be more convenient. Perhaps somewhere along I-90 in Washington or I-84 in Oregon. Hookups are less likely to be available but the location may be more convenient.

Time wise I am wondering if just before school gets out or just after school gets out for the summer would be best. Later in the summer it can get a bit on the warm side.

Please speak up if you are interested in a NW meetup and where you would most like it to be held.

The more I contemplate it the more I think Dayton may not be a bad choice.

We are roughly 4 hours from Seattle, 5 from Portland and (?) 4-5 hours from Boise.

Spokane is about 2-1/2 hours away.

Thoughts??

I will definitely follow this thread and see what folks come up with. Perhaps I will be able to bring my bus. We'll see. My life is too up in the air now to say otherwise.


[EDIT] School is out in June, right? June 19-20 is The Bus Fair in Oarkridge, which is in the mountains east of the Willamette Valley. Some people might like to go to this. I don't know. Just thought of reading about this and thought I should point it out. The weather is nice there in June, not too hot.

Yes, there is dispersed camping here. Basically you can camp on federal land, either Forest Service or BLM administered, wherever you want as long as there are no signs specifically prohibiting camping, AND, you are more than 200 feet from a stream.

I've heard there are a lot more signs prohibiting camping now than there were when I was doing quite a bit of dispersed camping around here 25 or 30 years ago, but I have not seen that for myself yet.

Off the top of my head it seems like the junction of US395 and I-84 would be a very central for everyone. Do you know of any suitable spots in that area?

No, I am not familiar with that area. Haven't been around there for many years. I can't think of anywhere to suggest, but I will keep thinking about it.

With number of folks I see on here from OR, WA & ID I had expected a little more interest than what I have seen so far.

I wonder if folks are not seeing the thread or if there is simply a lack of interest?

I'm interested. Here's a couple of State campgrounds. We've stayed at Crow Butte Park on the WA side of the Columbia before. It's not cheap- $35 per site:

Small world. I lived near Sagle and went to school in Sandpoint. Yes, thay did have schools way back then

That looks like a nice spot. The $35 a night is on the high side of what I was considering but it isn't outrageous.

Are you all comfortable with $35 a night?

A Sandpoint guy- I knew I liked you!
The Charbonneau Park looks nice too and was a bit cheaper. Closer to Dayton. No one complained about trains in the reviews. A few did at Crow which is nearish to a main BNSF line as I recall now. Only problem with those type of places is pinning down reservations. If people want to come at the last minute, might be tough.
