You'll have that......:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:---------------end of quote

I am always amused how people who know nothing about you imagine and invent what they wish to believe about you and make it a fact in their own minds in order to perpetuate the delusions they need to remain in denial of reality.

Btw......for the record.... I can afford whatever I wish......... built many things.......can repair and work on anything I wish to spend my time on. Never pay anyone to do anything for me. YES.... I am one of those guys.

More facts--------

Leisure vans where the "FAD" version of the carpeted hippie vans. We had school buses made into camper long before that.

SUV's are the "FAD" version of the 4x4. I still own a square body Chevy with a lift, roll bar, 450hp SB engine I built myself. I actually need 4x4's to go off road....actually go off road......unlike the folks posing in a 4x4 to go to the store.

I have a newer Z71 also... because I actually need a truck... I actually use it like a truck.... I actually haul such things as firewood, lumber, gravel, sand, pull boats...etc.etc.... My 4x4's and trucks are not a fashion statement.

OH, and by the way..... "cross overs" which is a more car-like suv are the new "hipster mania"...old folks like em too. They can pretend in a less scary way to have this rugged off road machine they really have no need for.

MYSELF????....I never follow fads.......... fads are for those with no imagination that wish to copy what they see "WHEN it's deemed socially acceptable". These same folks use to look down upon or were scared of what they now attempt to buy into.

The stupidity and shallowness of this offers unending amusement for me.

And certain folks capitalize on this lack of imagination and ignorance and reap lots of money doing so. I find that pretty amusing too.

When something becomes a fad.....it is most times ruined by it......not improved by it.

The world is plumb full of clueless posers. It's a plastic fantastic world for far too many these days. SAD!

Being a copy cat and being a plastic poser is not diversity.......... it's not artistic, imaginative or anything other than being a mindless sheep following the ad man who shepherds them.

"Hipsters" ain't hip....they are clueless folks posing as hip.
They have no clue what being hip is or means. They take something out of context with no understanding of it and vainly attempt to emulate it. They are not different. They are not unique.

I myself enjoy the company of those that think out of the box, sneer at the socially acceptable garbage, follow the different drummer...........Even if I don't agree with them I respect the fact they are real.

As for the rest??????????.............who cares? They ain't real anyways..........and we all know that this over abundance of plastic is ruining the planet.

Just say no to plastic.

I dont follow fads either.. I do what ever I damn well please.. I own a business.. a good one.. and my work allows me to drive around the country in my 2 busses and still get lots done.. im only saying that dont knock em..

for the record i grew up 4 wheeling in square body blazers and scouts.. the onlt semblence of "luxury" we had was A/C that kept the front seaters nice n cool...

I have a truck because i can.. and want.. whether i need it or not.. fact is i wanted it so I went and got it.. no reason i must "need" it..

I also build what I want (seen my redbyrd thread?).

so please dont tell me I know nothing about what im talking of..

the reason i say the 70s fans help lead to today;s skoolie (yes I know skoolies were around before that..).. is because that is what was more reachable for folks at one time.. perhaps what the parents had that lead the kids into being interested in building their own rig..
Long before HGTV and TLC shows..

ive built lots of things that I also could buy .. everything from hotrods to HVAC systems, ECM hacks, engines, lighting systems, home automation and many more.. not to mention all the stuff i build for work and wrote the software too.. so dont tell me i cant build stuff...

perhaps my definition of a "hipster" is "incorrect".. i dont know.. you tell me.. why so negative?? why the hate??

now as for those that watch HGTV and TLC then go try to build their own skoolie dreams.. there are those here who have been succesful in building their skoolie even though they have never turned a wrench or cut a piece of plywood in 2... but by gosh they learned.. through the HELPFUL threads on this forum.. people who have never welded got the encouragement.. those who couldnt make sense of that ball-o-wires in the dash got the courage and guidance here and other internet forums to tackle it..

isnt that what part of skoolie-life is? learning, trying new things, doing what you want? who cares if you are a master craftsman or not.. i got all the respect for anyone who tries.. so if they fail? big F'in deal.. at least they tried whether they are labelled a 'hipster' or 'follower' or not.. at least they gave it a shot...

im out - I got software to write and school bus rides to take...

That reminds me .... I need to talk to you about Mini-Splits.

I won't go into it here, but we are thinking of replacing our 3 1/2 ton, elderly package unit with two mini-splits ... a two zone and a three zone.

I can message you or start a new thread if the kind of thing I am discussing could be useful for others to read.

Hit him up via PM, he's gotta be the smartest person I know. His knowledge of AC systems is simply amazing.

Sure thing, PM me or we can start a minisplit thread here even though its not completely bus-centric it might help people brainstorm.

As one example...........

I remember the guys paying way over dealer list price and waiting in line months to buy a harley. Squeaky new HD brand leathers.....didn't even know how to ride....many not even really keen on bikes.... yet clueless victims of a marketing scheme.

This morphed into the legions of pretend outlaw bikers. Nothing to do with the original culture. Looking at bikes as investments rather than what they where originally perceived as by the real culture that built lives around them. Nothing real about it all. Just plastic fantastic manure. Posers trying to buy their way into a culture they knew nothing about because some marketing guy told them this is what they could do to feel important, manly and admired. No paying the dues...no respect .... no clue.

Now ya can hardly sell a harley........:rofl::rofl::rofl:..and most of the "bikers" you see are fat old grannies covered in meaningless tattoos or some old geezer in flip flops and shorts attempting to be some figure in a 1960 b- movie.... Although I do admit....it is pretty funny stuff.

Pretty soon........ these "tiny homes" will be everywhere for nothing. Along with the shipping crate home fad and all the rest. Because most of the people (mainly hipsters) are not into it because of a realistic reason...only because it's the fad they got sucked into. They are trying to buy being "hip". And will abandon it for the next fad the ad guys throw at them..........

In the meantime....the "real folks" that are into these bus campers for actual real world reasons have to suffer with ridiculous perceived inflated prices and all the other silly crap that goes with any mass marketing schemed fad.

THAT WAS and is the point.

If this offends the FAD FOLLOWERS.......... oh well.....la de da..whoop te do.....as my mom used to say.

Truth is truth.........

JUST SAY NO TO PLASTIC!

I'd much rather be in a group that can **choose** a lifestyle centered around certain material consumption decisions, take it or leave it as desired,

rather than be forced into it by circumstances, or feel my whole identity is somehow locked in by those material choices.

Yes, fashion drives prices, there are always winners and losers in any market, but that is reality as it presents itself to us in a capitalist society (which most of us say we want).

Hating on a subset of those desiring some of the same "stuff" that we want doesn't seem too productive, whatever their reasons may be.

It's not a capitalist society we live in.........it's a consumer society. Driven by the imagined need to consume....... and this need is brainwashed into you by advertising gurus that depend on your gullibility to keep buying into all this consumption.

This in fact is NOT GOOD........... not healthy and has led to the myriad of problems facing society and this planet.

This need to consume is all in your mind.... it is not real.

The original "tiny home" idea was based on doing away with much of this insane consumption of things you really do not need.

But the ad men are slick and turned this aversion to their brainwashing into more of the consumption they work so hard to sell you on.

GET IT?

SEE THE LIGHT.......... for the truth is enlightenment and the true road to happiness.

I was there when the whole Harley thing was blowing up. We Floridians joked around calling Bike Week "Doctor and Lawyer Week".
I remember when I was in MMI's Harley tech school. Even Harley teaches its techs about how inferior some of the products are. Especially Buell.
But I'm glad the fad is pretty much over with. Once the "Sons of Anarchy" craze has fully waned it will probably go back to the 80's level of Harley riders again. Which is a good thing, IMO.
Harleys are actually becoming affordable again. I want an early Evo with chain drive and a kick starter.

I remember you had to buy the kick starter after-market and install it yourself on the early EVO's.

I liked my Triumphs & Nortons best...but owned a number of HD & other Brit & Italian bikes as well. Loved to chop em.... Old school way. Built a few Rocker bikes too. My favorite was a pre-unit 650 Triumph with a unit top end on a custom Norton featherbed frame with all the goodies. A 77 or 78 FSX LowRider would be my choice HD. ( best of the Shovelheads). Just sold my old 78 FSX last year finally.

I think Bikes are why I got into vans and buses.... rolled many up inside a bus or old van and took off across country a few times that way.

Way more into boats and fishing these days.

Must be nice being in Florida the fishing capitol of the USA! :thumb:

im a DAMN PROUD free thinking Consumer.. I buy stuff cause i want it.. cause i think its fun or neat or cool... much of what I buy (and build) is not stuff i need.. but it sure gives me alot of smiles on the way.. and I need all the smiles I can get...

if consumer-ism is bad then i guess im an enemy.. oh well.. im not planning on stopping anytime soon..

im sure at some point i'll be tired of building school busses and will find the next thing in which I find fun.. and I'll go build and buy stuff for that...

I tend to like to tinker, experiment, explore and that involves buying stuff.. at least some stuff..

sorry but i happen to like it that way.. I really dont want to have to go back to the stone age and grow my own food and cut down my own trees and shape my own rocks for tools.... otherwise we have consumer based society..

OK...so you don't get it..... "most don't".
It is the problem.

But hey............. WHY ALWAYS SO ANGRY?
Don't get mad...just be real with yourself and honestly think about some points I make..........

You may find it makes you think a tad different and open doors that could lead to better happiness.

OR NOT?

PS...nobody said you had to go back to the stone age dude.......
You need to stop imagining people say things they don't.
You'll be able to debate much better actually reading..then thinking about the actual words written. Rather than inventing stuff never said and attempting to twist things in such a way so you can feel right about whatever is bothering you.

PEACE!
Try it...you might just like it.
:)

Chris you don't come off as a mindless consumer to me.

For the record.............

He didn't hit me that way either....
In fact I wasn't even talking about him.
Just making points in general about things i see concerning the subject at hand.

"I want an early Evo with chain drive and a kick starter."

Hey ECCB I have an 84 fxrs custom about 30 feet south of me with the EVO and chain final no kicker though. It was the first year of them and I thought they were all electric start.
