Not exactly a schoolie, but a bus! Brakes/Interlock Sys

Hi all,

I have a shuttle bus, a 2005 e-450, diesel dually with a much needed handicap lift. The parking brake has apparently failed and locked. This brake assembly is no longer made. The life of course is connected to a safety interlock system. To operate the lift the parking brake has to be on, bus running.

This is my question: Is it possible to remove the entire parking brake assembly, and still be able to use the lift? Either simply by depressing the parking brake pedal, or by bypassing the interlock switch entirely?

The parking brake assembly is no longer made and we would have to buy either junkyard, rebuilt, or aftermarket. I need to move the bus 2 miles next Wednesday and need some direction. I can probably move it with the parking brake engaged, but I'd rather not if I can help it.

Any and all advice for this extreme newby welcome! Please and thank you!

Hey! I know I'm a bit late, but you could try and rig together another parking brake assembly just to make the trip, especially if it's only two miles. I assume because it's an E-450 that it has a mechanical parking brake. Honestly I wouldn't doubt the aftermarket parts.. just don't buy off of amazon, try and see if you can get one from a parts store. You could also (only if you absolutely need to) completely disconnect the brake. There are ways to disable the interlock, either by disconnecting a wire or grounding it, tinker around and see where you get! Best of luck!

2005 e-450 parking brake assembly....
you mean to tell me that you can't find one in a junkyard anywhere? E bake assemblies get very little use and a junkyard assembly will probably be just fine.
