Oh Crap! I just bought a bus.

So I just bought a 2001 Blue Bird 72 passenger Flatnose bus with a Cummins engine (I don't have the exact specs in front of me) and Allison auto Tranny.
I have been researching the crap out of tiny houses, rv's, etc and trying to decide which route would be the best. I decided on the bus and pretty much on a split decision, hitched a ride to the midwest and bought one. Now what?
I feel like I thought this through more, but now that the bus is sitting in front of me; my mind is blank. What do I do next?

Strip out the seats and pull up the floor... Then what you intend to use it for will dictate what your next step is... Living in it? Then start pulling down the ceiling and wall panels and insulating. Need more headroom? Raise the roof.
At the very least take some tape and lay out your floor plan.

The plates are good until next year. Do I insure it just as an rv (I intend on living in it)? I am aware there are steps that I need to take to make sure it is an RV and no longer a bus for the DMV and it is different for each state and insurance company. But how do I find out? I've looked on the DMV website and feel like I have found nothing. Insurance websites don't seem to be very helpful either and I don't want to create a clusterf*ck of problems for myself by not knowing what to do, or how to approach the situtation.

It will be helpful knowing what state you plan to register it in.

Many of us end up getting "Commercial Insurance for Personal Use", my policy is about $50/month.

I live in GA and made ZERO effort to tag mine as a motorhome/RV. It's still very much "as built", seats and all. I paid 7% tax (of the selling price) plus tag and title fees. From that point forward it will be $20 per year.

Yes, living in it. We've already decided that we will not be raising the roof. Most of our conversion will be occurring while we are also living in it. We have about a month to get it winter ready and capable to live in. We aren't too worried about the amenities as we've been living in a yurt and tenting it for the last 2 years.
