Oktoberfest in FL

I'll brng RedByrd One.... :) :)

Humpty dumpty is all I got, not sure it'll even make it there with the bus but gonna try. If I pull up in a rental, you'll know it didn't go so well lol. I have faith in my engine making it, but not the At545.

After that Slip it gave me near instantly when I did the Horse Power upgrade. It makes me question the AT545 for a 9 hour trip. It hasn't slipped since I put the HP back down to 175, so I think it's okay. Just worried me a bit. I think she's more resilient than I give her credit for though. It'll be an adventure for sure! Much like the one Demac is going on now basically.

I may have been mislead but the words Doe Lake & Ocala, Florida are specifically mentioned. Both are very close to our farm.

All of the photos in my original post
(quoted above) are click-able links to the event's, themselves. Click on the photos to read more details from each event's sponsors.

Weird I didn't see that at all on FB only on their site when I clicked on your link. I don't visit their site often.
Looks like they're doing another doe lake and I didn't know, my bad. I'd go but they want money ahead of time and I'm just not looking to have to resell my "ticket" if something comes up.
And again- it just seems to me like the "swarm" wants to be a christian group. That's fine its their right. I just don't want anything to do with any religion.

That's Right!

Nikitis,

ive tended to do just that.. "roll with it baby!"...

you can only prepare so much..

just this past week i was talking with an acquaintence who was doing his afternoon school route in his brand new 2025 bus with less than 5000 miles on it when it quit and put them in a parking lot... mechanics say its something electrical ...

if DeMac can drive a 50 year old bus on a 3500 mile road trip, and I did the same with a 40 year old bus, then someone with your mechanical knowledge can take a trip too! theres ALWAYS something to be wary of...

I found things on my most recent long trip in the superior that prob wouldve kept some people home but I ran with it and a great time was had!

my maiden voyage in the DEV bus 8 years ago left me down with a busted air brakes compressor in small town georgia... I made friends with the hotel GM and bartender.. the GM even offered to loan me her pickup truck to get parts and tools.. they didnt have a guest laundry but let me use the machnes in the hotel laundry.. I fixed a couple dead room phones in the hotel for them for nothing and they were grateful.. couple days later i was back on the road again.. learned alot, had a memorable experience doing it...

this bus thing isnt going to be perfect... a brand new RV isnt going to be perfect.. you prepare for the things you can reaosnably prepare for and then you go with it... one of my preparations its $$ and a wallet full of credit cards that i can rely on if I have a major failure.... the US isnt a 3rd world country... theres always tow rigs and storage units to rent by the month where you can stash a badly broken bus and airplanes to get you home if all else fails...

im in volved in a group that rescues busses and preserves them.. part of a bus museum... the object is to drive each and every bus we acquire to its destination... even a bus that makes it half of its journey is still much cheaper to tow or ship than one thats twice as far away... if we didnt have some adventure in us then we wouldnt have 70% of the busses we do in the group....

if your bus isnt ready to make the trip then drive your car... I remember when EastcoastCB used to host events we had several people regularly show up in cars and either stay in hotels or camped in tents or camped in their car... everyone was welcome bus or not.. some showed up to see others' busses so they could make a better informed decision about what they might want to build...

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

My bus is 30 years old, and I've put a lot into her to get her road ready. I just drove her 2 hours today. Zero slippage. She ran pretty well, no overheating. Making me feel more confident about it. She cranked up on a dime too every time. I went to pick up my XPS Foam insulation for the floor and advantech OSB floor today. I had to trip to 3 different Home Depots to get it all as not a single one had all that I needed, so I drove across 3 cities today in the bus. Everyone stops me every time I get out of the thing. They want to know about it. I love that about it.

The whole idea of driving a bus is still relatively new to me. I'm 43, and probably put 3-4 million miles of road travel under my belt in a car/truck in my lifetime. I've not a ton of experience driving something so large so far. 200 miles is the longest trip I did in it, and the bus was in far worse condition when I did that trip. So I do feel a lot better about it now. I have no problem breaking down when it's a car, I've practically broke down for a few mins the other day when I did the HP upgrade until I recovered. I know it's no big deal, and I'm definitely not scared to do it, but it's just first time jitters. I have yet to go on a 9 hour trip, probably 15 by bus. I put a lot into her and want to see it succeed is all! So if I sound like I have hesitation that's where it comes from. I'm totally gonna do it.

And WHEN I get to Demacs, I'll feel a lot better about it all having done it.

Did I miss it, somehow? Surely... somebody must have mentioned Don Garlits' museum by now? It's in Ocala.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Garlits_Museum_of_Drag_Racing

It's been a couple decades since I was there, so it could have changed a bit, but I also enjoyed his "second museum" of regular classic and antique cars.

Now... I cannot possibly come to Florida this year. It's close to 3000 miles from here! But recent local events have made me less tied to my home here in Clearlake -- I might even sell the place -- so a "Road Trip!" just might be possible next year.

Of course, I also have friends (mostly Burning Man folks) to visit in almost every state -- and in Tallahassee and Cape Coral there in Florida.
In short, my old brain is spinning with new possibilities, haha.

I remember seeing a video of Garlits firing up an old air raid siren from the 50's, powered by a 392 hemi. He hooked up a gas can to the carburetor and used a fresh battery to start it. When he pulled the clutch handle to engage the siren, folks freaked out & covered their ears.....

at about 46 seconds in, Don says it's a 1952, 180 HP Chrysler hemi engine. I thought I remembered it being later than that.
Guess my old-timer's disease is really kicking in...

Elliot, You are welcome to visit whenever you are ready.

I don't know how I forgot to mention Don Garlits Drag Race Museum.

Google shows Garlits as 8.0 miles away from Our Happy Place. Next door to the museum is a Cracker Barrel. Across the street are Zaxby's, Popeyes, Wendys, Subway, Waffle House, McDonald's.... more.

My friend, Aileen lives in the house Don Garlits grew up in. The garage was built by Don himself and inside, was where the magic all started. Aileen's house is about half the distance to the museum.

It might be a skoolie first if we hold our own drag race event. I don't mind wearing a dress and little makeup. I can probably still run pretty fast in a skirt, but at my age, sprinting in high heels is just irresponsible. 🤣 😂

I've seen your mug. It will take more than just a little makeup. But on the subject of age, you are a spring chicken.

Rock on, DeMac!!!!

Love ya, Danny!!

I'm still on the fence for Oktoberfest.

Not sure what workload will be like then. Nobody else can do my ****.

Really want to be there, but I will feel a bit out of place in a tent with 2 unruly but friendly mutts.

No worries, Christopher. I keep the mutts under control at all times.

Y'all are the best peeps ever

I hope you don't have the roaming skunks I have here. I think I have counted 9 individuals.

Had to use the special shampoo on both of my mutts a couple of weeks ago.
