Oktoberfest in FL

Skunks?

I hope you don't have the roaming skunks I have here. I think I have counted 9 individuals.

Had to use the special shampoo on both of my mutts a couple of weeks ago.

I've never seen a Florida skunk.

We have a several species of winged predators. Anything smaller than a house cat is on their menu. Our full grown chickens are fine, but a few of the younger adolescents have been carried away.

Used to see them dead on the side of the road in the 80's. Haven't seen one since. Developers and drivers have essentially removed them from our ecosystem. If you see one in FL you're supposed to report it.

The only skunk I see in FL now is of the cannabis variety.

florida can come up here and get a few if they want more :p
theres plenty to go around..

the storage unit where i keep my busses has them roaming around.. along with feral cats.. its imperative people have to make sure their doors are closed good on everything.. one guy's RV door wasnt closed tight.. and we think a feral cat and a skunk probably met up inside.. the result was a lot of work for him to get his RV useable again..

Universal Studios, Disney World, Sea World, Busch Gardens, Fun Spot

I checked Google maps for the distance and travel time from Our Happy Place to the more popular attractions. They're all directly south of us, highway speed, the whole way.

Fun Spot Orlando - 61mi, 1h
Disney World - 60mi, 1h 3m
Universal Studios - 62mi, 1h 2m
Sea World - 66mi, 1h 6m
Busch Gardens - 81mi, 1h 15m
Distance & Time, per Google Maps

We might be a good way-point for skoolies traveling to and from the major attractions.

we have a number of customers in the orlando area.. makes it easy to write-off Bus rides to florida :)

ima downgrade my status to "maybe".

im trying to get some solar on the roof. depending on shipping, timing. i also have appointment in a week for my new front leaf springs, so the last week of october may be busy finishing up bus projects.

my timing may line up better for turkey in florida, but i may get lucky.

I just finished my floor and is all I got but bringing my bus as is, gonna throw in a mattress, portable cooking stove, chair, monitor, battery, and may build a seat for two in case people wanna ride before I come down

Aside from the mechanicals, the floor insulation is exactly the spot to invest ou r time & money, while using our skoolies as a steel tent.

An insulated floor is a big deal to person(s) sleeping on an air matress or just walking around barefoot. I selpt on Noah's metal floor for one night, then an air matress the next night. On both nights I froze my A off. It hasn't grown back, either.

On the third night I added anti-fatigue mat to the floor. Onto the top of the matress, I folded several layers (144"x80") of moving blanket. A 30 minute skoolie conversion performed in the Harbor-Freight parking lot.

If you still have the steel ceilings, you might buy a bunch of the metal, magnetic chip-clips at Harbor-freight. They turn towels into curtains or sun shades that can be quickly moved the to where they're needed or stowed on the steel below the windows, when their not.

*THIS* the floor.. !
its interesting the differences in my busses.. my 2 short busses have the factory metal then plywood then the rubber.. my Superior has just the metal then the rubber..

the amount of insulation just that plywood provides over the metal-only is a lot.. so truy insulating your floor makes a huge difference for not just cold weather but also hot.. esp if you drive your bus then park... all the heat from your engine and transmission ends up under the bus and inside.. something you might want when you first park on a cold night, however will soon be very cold once the engine chills..

sleeping on an air mattress in my Superior gets very cold very fast compared to the floor staying temperate in the other 2 busses..

I have all kinds of magnets for my ceilings.. i use clear shower curtains to hold heat or cool in one area of a bus while maintaining visibility.. you can just as easily use opaque curtains hanging on a magnet to block out light or help hold in heat..

So yesterday when finishing my floor it was 91 degrees.

This morning I woke up to a crisp 57 degrees. First cool day of fall for us, so it was perfect time to test the temps inside the bus and I walked into the bus and it was a nice 74 degrees inside thanks to the new floor. It was still holding heat from the hot day yesterday. Usually my bus is only a couple of degrees off from the outside, today it was nearly 15 degrees off, and I don't even have side insulation yet! It's working very well so far.

I know eventually it will normalize but I'm seeing the normalization taking far longer now with just the floor being done.

Browns' Bro's Fall Festival

Brown & Brown Farms was open for business today, once Milton left the area. They posted a video update on FB.

Everything there looks fine in their video. I'll drive over there & have a look for myself, tomorrow.

I can only see a few shots because I don't have a Fakebook account, but looks like a hoot of a time.

Happy to hear all of my Floriduh friends are safe and sound.

Be safe in the clean-up and take care of each other.

BTW, @Demac. Don't feel like you have to kill yourself prepping your property for a skoolie gathering. We all realize your property just went through a Hurricane. We want you to save some of the cleanup for us. I'll be bringing down a chainsaw and may help out a day with clean up down in Florida in other places anyway, and we can start with yours if you have any work that needs doing.

Many hands make light work and we're glad to assist.:thumb::campfire:

That's terrific. Chainsaws & Sawzalls with pruning blades, too. We do have a couple of downed trees that I can let rest a few weeks. Meanwhle I can focus on mending the fencing that require immediate attention.

A bonfire will be on the menu. The entire landscape is covered with dead wood. Nature's arborist removed all of the loose, rotted, and dead branches from all of the trees.

If we don't make it for Oktoberfest, I will try to help bring Noah home unless it happens before I get there.
