One way permits in WV & VA and what you should know

Ok so yesterday my wife and I headed to Va to pick up our bus 2003 International Amtram RE. I had made several attempts to speak with DMV in Va for a one way permit and ofcourse in WV where we live. To all of you who may have to pick up a bus in WV go to a Detachment State troopers office they will be happy to give you one for a small fee and that's all you need to get your bus home...from pickup to destination the officers said. Now VA is totally different because they only offer these permits to local residents within the state and that's because it's based on the fact the vehicle is going to be registered in VA. So here we are my wife and me , VA where the bus is and can't get a permit because we are not residents to my home state WV who says we only give them to you if your taking a vehicle out of the state ???? Well we had the title, insurance , BOS and a full tank of gas so we went home 480 miles and 9 hours later . So do the right thing and get a permit from the state you buy it from and cruise on home , or if the state it's in doesn't offer you temp tags , permits and any other options truths your gut and be safe going home....but do have insurance ...I hope this helps

In the state of Ga., new residents have 30 days to register, 7 days if you are a resident. BOS is all you need to legally drive it after it is insured. For that matter, State Farm automatically covers you for 7 days on any vehicle I buy, even if it's a bus they won't insure.
Unless you do something really agregious driving chances of being pulled over is slim. In the event you do get questioned I've never had an issue with LEO after showing a signed title, a current BOS, and proof of insurance, with an explanation that I'm just passing through your state to deliver the bus home.

Loved that about GA when we lived there. But it did make it a little too easy to buy used cars and drive them home.....

Because they don't require or issue titles on old motorcycles I use the fact that the one i'm looking to buy doesn't have a title as a negotiating tool to adjust the selling price. In the end it makes no difference if I have a title or not. No emission inspections here in my county.
