I contacted the seller, it was a woman. She is clueless to what she is selling. I mentioned that I didn't think Thomas ever made a FWD bus or put V10's in them. She replied:
"Your are right. the title says Thomasville. I made a mistake,
Nani"
I think Thomasville is the city it came from and was titled to the Thomasville School system. I have requested pics so I can set her straight.
If you are concerned about completing a sale from Craigs List I make the potential buyer show me there current license and I will shoot a pic of the license and pic of them. If that makes them squirrelly, turn and leave.
If I could turn loose of the money, I'd buy it if it was in good shape and running.
It's not running, needs a motor. She wants $1000.waiting on pics of it to see if it's worth towing home and finding a good motor for it. I wish my diesel mechanic didn't move to Ala.
I'd have to get it cheaper as it would cost $800 to tow it home. I really don't have room for one bus, let alone 2 of them.
An engine core is around $2500. A decent engine is 3500 and up.
To tow it and put another engine in it, you'd have spend enough to have bought a nice bus with no problems and save yourself all that hassle.
Scrap is probably around 1000-1500.
:Thanx: Don't need the aggravation or the space taken, so I'll pass.
Now what's the average price of a rebuild on the existing engine?
If you do it, around 2-3 grand.
For a shop to do an in-frame on, say, a DT466 you're looking at around 6000-10,000 depending on the shop and how far you want to go with replacing stuff.
I think its a 97, and I'd need a 99-2003. I *think*.CB,
Did you notice the bus for sale or to be scrapped buy 1heartbus. Has the dt466 not sure if an E but he needs rid of it pronto. Might help your fix and other parts. Thread is Sad day or something to that affect.
Worth your time to speak to him I'd say.
John

If I got a parts bus, I'd want another Allison 2000, and I'd want the same dash for parts. Although I'm not opposed to using the older, simpler metal dash.
Might be worth it to check under the hood, that's where i found my motor. I suspect it was there all along.
