OT- Tractors, Mowers, Power Equipment Thread!

Nice Z-turn. Courses I've worked for use a Walker or a Scag to mow around the clubhouse and entrances. Usually with a grassbox.

Walker and Scag are both nice mowers. They're too pricey, imo. I really wish they still built these Everrides. What an awesome mower, and tough as nails.

Did a cleanup today

So- I've gotten a LOT busier this year. As in 4x as busy.
A guy I do a lot of work for bought new equipment this year and he got Stihl 4 stroke trimmers. Man do those suck. You still have to run premix gas/oil and they're heavy. I may start collecting 2 stroke lawn tools so that in the future I'll have a shed full and won't have to rely on these lame 4 strokes.

On another note- the new 60" Toro sure makes mowing much quicker.

My 1980 something JD 216 just lost the ability to raise/lower the sleeve hitch/mower deck. I think it's the actuator motor (elec. smell), the silly-noids all go clicky as I move the raise/lower handle . Got a wire schematic and will dive in soon. Meanwhile I bought a bucket for the front. I have a box scraper and a disc for the rear but the bucket will be nice.

The electric lift mechanism's actuator motor has fried. No longer available from JD so I found a used one and hoping for a few more years out of it.
The motor shorted out into a solid mass and smelled real bad, even melted some of the 10ga that feeds it. If the used unit is crap, I'll retro-fit a generic linear actuator and keep on tractoring.

I found a complete actuator/motor assy .from Floyds in MI for a reasonable price. Considering JD has discontinued this part I guess it's a great price! Now the search continues for a motor so I can have a spare.

Tractor on.....................

How much mowing do yall have to do In AZ?

I bet the decks don't rust out as fast out there!

Home made HIE ignition tach problem

I'm going way out on a limb here, hope someone can help. I built a new ignition system for my Cushman using a hall effect switch and a GM HEI module and dual tower coil. I have less invested than a new set of points and condenser. It works great. Runs smoother and idles better. The problem is the tach no longer works. The system is a lost spark system meaning that both plugs fire every stroke. The tach is a Thomas G Faria that only has two wires. With the original wiring one wire went to coil + the other to coil -. With the new ignition that hookup kills the engine. I can't find any info about that tach, the company was bought out by another and they don't seem to make anything close to that now. I thought I might be able to make some sort of induction pickup but, my first try didn't do anything. I could probably put another hall effect switch in the disto but I was hoping for something easier.

There are a number of articles on the web about using that module but, none seem to have a tach. I would like to keep the tach I have because it is original and says Cushman on it. The original GMs that used that module had a tach terminal on the disto but, I can't seem to find info on how that was wired internally. Any of you electronics guys have any clues?

Thanks Dick

I was flagged down by a man in the 55+ park we mow in. He was asking if we'd seen anyone in his yard in the last week or two.

I think he has an enemy with a whole lot of Roundup on hand.

someone also mowed it down to nearly ground level. Double dose of lawn death!

There is a tractor thread!! I can't believe I'm just seeing this for the 1st time today. I use quite a bit of big iron at work.
