Painting bus with Rhino Liner?

I posted this question on another bus site and most were against this idea. I apologize if this has been discussed on another thread.

I am seriously thinking about using bed liner to paint the outside of my bus. It currently does not have any rust and I live in Vermont. I would like to keep it that way!

Looks like I can get different colors. I know it will be difficult or impossible to remove. Some say it will add too much weight and may even effect aerodynamics(Not sure about this one).

Does anyone have any experience with these products or any other advice?

Yes go with linex a superior product in my experience with both as far as toughness and durability.
As far as cost they are about equal.
Jeepers been doing the entire body inside and out but they are way smaller. Better have deep pockets to do a bus.
As far as aerodynamics go I bet you would have to put it thru wind tunnel testing to see the difference.
Linex has many variations of texture hardness and can do custom colors too.

The only liner paint jobs I have seen both failed. A friend had an old Toyota PU he had done "professionally" and it began peeling off in big chunks within a couple of months. There may be a way to do it right, but I just haven't seen it.

Jeepers have been lining the interior floors NOT the body.

I've seen one vehicle done this way. It was a 96 Dodge truck, ugly as fawk. It looked like an advocato.

I might line the undercarriage but that's it. It does not make a attractive paint.

I believe that the Rhino Liner would be a poor choice. The liner is rough, and seems to hold dirt more. I know that technique can make it less rough, but it's still rough. My son sprayed the front 1/2 of his trucks hood, and it's always dirtier than the rest of the hood.
Get a good paint with rust inhibitors and you should have results that work well, and looks better. Let us know what you decide, and post some pics.

Not something I would do but I am pretty sure that there is a member on the board who has done that already. I have searched the forum and cannot find the bus but I do remember seeing it.

I was gonna say same thing.
Its so abrasive, anything that rubs across it makes a mark. It starts looking ratty after a short while. I've seen lots of 4x4's and trucks do it. But it don't look good to me. Just my opinion.

I'd just go with Rustoleum and add a hardener.

What kind of hardener are you talking about? They didn't have any hardeners for an oil base paint where I bought my rustoleum. I even went to a real paint store and told them I wanted a hardener with negative results.

Magik Hardener. Available at any Tractor Supply. Valspar also sells one.
