Hello! My wife and I are beginning our journey into the Skoolie life. Currently we have a pop-up camper that we bounce around to festivals with during the summer. Both of us are nomads at heart and have been planning a skoolie build to live out our dreams in. As we have been planning the build, this forum continues to be a valuable resource at the top of the search results. I figured it was time to finally join. Thank you all in advance for the wealth of knowledge provided here.

Welcome to the site. If you have any questions feel free to ask. People will answer.

The build journey can be long or short depending on your needs.

Welcome to the nut house!

My wife and I had a vintage pop-up too, but wanted something with hard sides and the lack of shimmying out those stuck sliders every time, so we bussed up. I think you're gonna dig the change.

Here's the Brady Bunch mobile. We called her Effie because it was such and 'effort' to set up and take down.

Keep us posted on the goings on!

Welcome! Just out of curiosity, are you okay with saying your general area of PA? If not, I totally understand.
I only ask because I was born and raised there and lived all over, from PGH to PHI and in-between. I'm always happy to see in fellow PA'r

What do you mean? Those pop-up campers are quick to setup and easy too. We had a Jayco one just like it as a kid and my dad would always let me set it up it was so easy. Just put floor mounts down, unlatch the sides, insert crank, crank, push out the beds, insert the support bars, latch the door and done!

Yours must have been new, or newer. Ours was literally 50 years old. We had chronic problems with our setup. I replaced all the struts with used eBay ones, as they are NLA, and replaced all the cables with new ones. The bed sliders would also always get stuck, as the walls and sliders would bow, twist, and everything else. Despite having 'safety posts', the roof always felt like it would come crashing down. The door mech was all messed up and never really lined up. Although it had that super cool vintage Brady Bunch style, it felt like it was built with beer can aluminum and rumpus room plywood. I'm sure it was great back in the day, but ours was a little tired. We did sell it to a couple who were going to take my restoration further, and we used that money to help pay for the bus. This is our exact layout and color scheme.

Yeah, common problems with them were caused by user errors. Some people would set them up out of order and put stress on hinges, and slides and wear them out. It's 100% because yours is old and tired. When new they go up quite easily without fuss.
