I've wanted to do this for years. My idea is to use more containers to span the open space for storage. Then you could put a rear wall and door on it.

They come in 20 or 40' lengths, that's 320-640sf of storage just in the boxes, another 400-800sf under cover.

They also have some that come taller - 9.5’ if my memory serves. You can also get them where they’ve only been used once.

Our plan is to buy some land, sell the current house and create a container base/home in VT.

Check out your local craigslist. Search shipping containers. For better pricing amongst competitors, or for a bigger variety of sizes go to Craigslist for a city with a port.

when I get my piece of real estate (eventually) that the concept for my pole barn. the back wall will be another container with roll up doors (think garden/lawnmower shed) so that I can stack seasoned firewood in the rear one

I had considered doing just that to park my bus under when I lived in AZ. The county building department was not nearly as excited about the idea as I was....

I still think that is a great idea.

Check your local codes first. Anytime you add to a container or construct with many towns will balk. Some require engineered plans. I know as I used to sell them and build with them including a couple of air traffic control towers shipped to the middle east.
When you buy check them out yourself. Good seals on the doors, limited corrosion and decent floors. Get the numbers for the ones you purchase and make sure that's what you get.

It's cost plus shipping that gets you so if you can find a trucker with a landoll trailer or the place you buy from has a roll off your good.

two places around me sell used ones and i have priced used 53 foot used for 2800-3000 delivered in my area.
as far the the top goes it seams easy enough to build tall enough to park a skoolie under without trying to do the rounded roof or if thats a must then try to find some old grain silos the width and cut it in half?
long story short the company i used to work for. on the big projects we had a set up with trusses,walls,roll up doors already fabbed and stored in the containers. when it was needed on the job we would place the containers 20 feet apart,rock in between and pull the already built trusses wall framing and cut to length and marked tin for wall panels and roof panels.
an experienced four man crew could almost build it in an 8-hour day but we got good enough that we could dismantle one move it and rebuild it in three days.
the company had seven set ups. when needed we could have full size small sheetmetal shops and pipefitting plumbing shops right on the job with storage for the equipment,fixtures,materials to installed on the job.
was always nice to have
