Pet flap in stairwell?

One more cat note...

If you find yourself (and your cat) in bald eagle country...keep them close. The baldies have been returning to areas they've not been seen in for decades (climate change?) and seem to have put kitty cats and small pooches near the top of their preferred menu. The local Volunteer Fire Department where I lived about ten years ago (near Tomball, Texas) sent a note out to area residents informing them that bald eagles had recently been seen carrying off a lot of small animals and to take necessary precautions.

For what it's worth, bald eagles had not been nesting in that area for nearly 50 years. Today they are all over this region including along the Gulf Coast waterways.

In Alaska it was not unusual to see over 50 eagles walking around on the ground at the dump. One of them was so huge that it looked like a turkey and could no longer fly.

You've got to wonder why an eagle was chosen as our national bird. They are carrion eaters. Does that say something about us?

Well it sounds like the consensus is mixed, I expected that. Some cats take to travel and leashes well and others don't. Nala does fine on car rides, I'll just have to give her a trial period once I get the bus. Sounds like I've got a general A OK give it a try on the pet flap in the stairwell! *Nothin new under the sun, eh folks?* :wink1:

2kool4skool, LOVE the kitty window cage! I'd considered one of those too, again, something to try out for Nala's consideration.

o1marc, I have a reflective breakaway collar for Nala, if she gets caught on something she can pull away. She's come back from home a few times without hers and I got replacements.

I did some checking on those gps pet trackers, reviews were mixed depending on brand. Honestly a cat cam would probably work better lol

Jdawgsfanasty, putting one in the door isn't a bad idea, I plan on having a new door though, don't trust the bus doors. Still, the entry remains in the stairwell and I don't see how the leak issue would be any better in the door vs the stairwell, since I wouldn't put the pet flap on the tire side in the well to begin with.

peterbylt, I think Nala could be trained to harness and leash. She REALLY will not like it at first though. But once she understands that that's her ticket to outside chill time, she might come around. I think she might like to hike with me...

01ThomasMVP, I HAD thought of having the roof emergency exits cat accessible. I plan on a roof deck, thought about having a cage up there for her instead of a window cage so she'd have more room, because she's a climber, a tree cat.

JDOnTheGo, thanks for the pro-vote! Sounds like you and your cats have an understanding!

Tango, Roger that, Nala's a good hunter and decent sized cat, but I don't want to see her tangle with an eagle. I'll take local predators in mind.

Our national bird was actually almost a Turkey. They felt the Eagle looked more majestic. All that says about us is that we are vain.

Frankly, I don't get the hate for carrion eaters. They're an important part of the food chain. Nothing wrong with eating leftovers, less goes to waste that way.

Most carnivors are said to taste different, as secondary consumers.

I've heard talk of eating hawks when people were starving. I can remember eating bear once when I was a kid and didn't care for that much. I'm told cougar is delicious. Go figure.
