Photo bucket just committed suicide

You should be able to add images into your post. Type out post text and then attach images as usual and upload.

Next click on the place you want to insert an image within your post and then choose the paperclip icon.

I don't know who you are, Janet, but I like the cut of your jib. Them ginormous donuts caused me to drool a bit on my keyboard.

Aren't you clever. What happens if i put random number in Attach code?

Oh THAT's what the paperclip is for! Thanks for the tip.

Maybe in the future I'll request to edit some of my posts to migrate them to using attachments instead of photobucket.

Alright... I am safe thru 2018. That is... I already pay Photobucket a few bucks to banish advertising from my screen, and I suppose that's what they call a Plus Account.

All I have to do is renew the Plus thing, which is a dollar or two per month. To the end of 2018.

So.... $40.00 a month! There is a name for that: Blackmail.

As for having a website instead of a home server.... I have a website on GoDaddy. Their do-it-yourself software is horribly buggy, but I have a website.
But I seem to remember running up against a limit on photo storage space there. Of course, that's probably only a matter of only a few more bucks. Or a less goofy hoster.

But $40.- a month?! Some folks will pay it, because it is little money to them, and they don't have endless amounts of time to re-do everything.

I live on $1,294.20 a month. Grand total net income. And I am grateful to President Roosevelt that I have this, after my complete-financial-wipeout-years-of-illness. $40.00 to Photobucket ain't happenin', Bucko.

Also, there is the matter of convincing the Admin of various forums to let me in so I can change all the links. And those Admins will be swamped with such requests.

And the hours and hours and hours of work it would take me to.... Frankly... that's where it will stop for me. That is... I won't even begin.
If The Millicent Chronicles is to be available to future bus-converters past 2018, it will have to be thru a book printed on paper.

My crystal ball says... an entire new industry will spring up to solve this -- for hecka less than $40 a month.

And yes, Photobucket is surely dead. In fact, they have been half dead a long time, with their frequent and large outages. They have gone dark for a much a two or three days straight. This $40 a month is a "Hail Mary pass" at an epic level of desperation.

Guess number 1: Somebody will buy them any day now, relieving the Photobucket brass of the whole mess, which I bet said Hail-Mary-throwing brass will welcome with tears and hallelujahs.

Isn't the whole idea of sites like photobucket so that you can share photos? What possible reason other than that would I have to upload my photos? I used them instead of uploading to skoolie because I could upload once and post on as many boards as I wanted.
This has pretty much made my whole build site worthless since I rely heavily on pictures. Unless someone figures a way to make the migration one click it ain't gonna happen. My monthly income is lower than Eliot's so payinf is also out of the question.
I do maintain a personal website so pictures are going to have to go there.

I found uploading to this forum via Tapatalk is super simple. I add to a message directly from my phone's photo album. It's like uploading a pic to facebook. Easy peasy :D
I do the same thing.

I hope Photobucket comes to their senses and re-thinks their new fee structure. I'd pay $20 a year to host my pics there but no more. No way in **** will I pay $399/yr. for the privilege of linking to a pic. Ultimately I'll redo my skoolie build thread with attached pictures instead of linked pics then I'll upload my free 2GB limit of pictures to Photobucket and leave them to rot. Maybe open a few new accounts there and upload the limit to them too.

As far as I'm concerned they just killed photo hosting sites. I'm done with them all.

Janet - Is it possible to allow editing of the old threads? I'm willing to upload the pictures affected by the broken links. If not, I'll re-create my build thread minus comments from other members, but I'd prefer to preserve the entire thread.

Sounds similar to mine, though I pay around $13 a year.

you probably joined up earlier than I did... my guess is once our subscriptions expire they will try ands force uas into the high price plans... unless we are lucky and get grandfathered in

im almost old enough to be a granfather does that count?? though I got no kids (thank god)

I guess all the important pictures from a build could be put back in by doing an edit? That would work.

We are working on a onetime solution to recover these images so please be patient for a day. More importantly do NOT use hosted images to document build threads moving forward. ;)

My pictures are back. Is this permanent or is Photobucket just messing with us?

Mine are back too, but I got an email from photobucket saying I needed to upgrade. I assume that means those links will be cut again at some point.

Last night I downloaded all my photobucket pics and marked each one with the post# of the pictures in my build thread. If/when they do finally cut the cord I'll know what goes where if the forum admins allow editing of the old threads. My build thread is 42 pages long and it only took me an hour or two to go through all the posts.

No way on earth will I give photobucket a dime of my money.

I just went back and re-read the original e-mail photobucket sent.

"Some features of your account will be disabled"

But they don't say when. So we either pay $400/yr or they cut the links. I'm not paying.

There have been rumors going round regarding a major class action law suit against them so maybe they are backing off just a little.

Personally...I hope they get their a$$ $ued off. Uber-slimey business practices should be so rewarded.
