Hello everybody , ive decided that im goin sckoolie . Im a car builder by hobby but know nothing of diesels . Im looking at a 1997 international with dt466 engine auto trans. My main concern is what shall i stay away from?

Welcome! --- the 466 is a great engine with lots of fans but many try to avoid those with an "e" on the end. Any and all electronically controlled motors can be a nightmare to maintain unless you are a hard core hacker/computer geek.

As for trannies, Allisons are the gold standard but the older 500 series are rapidly becoming dinosaurs that are hard to find service and parts for. Any of the 1000/2000/3000 series are fantastic. The more gears the better and check that they have full Lock Up.

Best of luck on your hunt.
