I had someone suggest to have a schrader valve connected via a tee fitting to the water pump so that I can air blow the water out of the pump when winterizing. Is water getting trapped in the pump a common problem that people need solutions to?

Good evening, I would guess that anywhere water could get trapped, it would freeze and expand. Maybe just a good draining and then running the pump dry for a few seconds could suffice for draining the pump itself. Most water pumps can handle running dry without any damage, at least for short period of time.
