Pool Bus

Thank you to a kind and generous customer of mine, a bus has been donated to me to start my "Pool Bus" Project. Hoping to have this ready in time for Winstock 2018!!!

2001 77 Passenger Thomas FS65 on an International Chassis with DT466E engine and 198,xxx miles on it.

Let's see where I can go with this!!!

there was a member here a few years ago that did a Hot-tub bus.. I remember seeing it.. great idea if a bus can handle the water weight of a pool!. is the weight of water like 6 or 8 pounds per gallon or something crazy like that?

Love the video! Thanks for the laugh! Due to weight I wasn't thinking of going extremely deep. Maybe like kiddy pool depth just to dip feet in to help cool off a bit.

A gallon of water is just over 8lbs/gallon. That is what I am trying to figure out. I was thinking that I would plan on filling the pool once I arrived and put jack stands under the bus to help support.

I like it! How do you plan to insulate the metal of the bus from the water in the shallow pool? THAT would be the fun part for me... I'd just go overboard with sealants and stuff....

Re-thinking

As I start thinking about the lay out, the weight and the purpose of the bus. I am starting to think that I want to make it dual purpose. I like the pool bus idea, as we want this bus to help us stay cool during the hot music festival events. I feel the weight is going to bring up issues and it may wreck some of the structure of the bus prematurely. I am thinking now of opening up the back and making it a place that I can haul my side by side, and when at festivals, we can sit up there and have shade if we want, and install misters along the rafter line to help cool down. With the water source I can also use it to rinse off the side by side before hauling it back, and thought about putting an outdoor shower head so that I can wash myself off as well.
Still doing a sitting area inside to cool off as well and take a nap if you need.

You could do a bigger pool.
Install tanks underneath to haul the pool water in to keep the center of gravity low and pump it in the pool when you get parked and when done pump the pool water back to the tanks and that water could be used for the toilet also if not needed for the pool
You can pipe some 12 volt or 120v pumps in parallel and turn the second pump turned opposite to pump the water back to the tanks if you place the check valves right.

On the Tenders in the fire service, we use drop tanks. Pretty much waterproof tarp (liner) inside of a steel folding frame. If go with the pool, I am thinking of using something like that. The benches I would put around the edge would form the frame for the liner.

Maybe start with a firetruck instead of a bus? They already have bigger suspension and pumps/tanks.

I've seen tanker trucks cheap at auctions. That would be an easy pool on wheels project.

New thought: you could have a pool that fits inside the body of the bus, but that can be pulled out, like a day bed, out the back of the bus? And sit on solid stilts when full of water outside the bus, instead of being hard on your bus, carrying all the water all the time. I don't know if you plan on taking the water with you wherever you go, but you could fill, empty, and refill on location. Pull in the drained pool and go! Park, pull it out, fill, and swim!

What side by side do you have? Love the bed to haul it and the water to wash it and yourself after a hard muddy ride.

Wow. That is very cool. Do you mind sharing who donated it to give them a bit of credit? It's really neat to see someone/a company that believes in trying new things, donating to a cause and helping.

We designed our's for festivals, so we did an outdoor shower as well. We have a large festival group though, so we had no room for a back deck like you show, but if we had a smaller group, that was the plan!!
