Pre-Costs

publicsurplus.com $2425, $2667 after commissions. Expect another $10K to finish it.
This one I will keep at my country house, the next one at the boat/RV storage for $58/m

Thanks

Wow thanks for all the quick replies! I expected a much larger cost so I am happy to hear this!

one I bought from a dealer for 5k , the second one came from an auction for 1800 bucks.. then all the upgrades started... Air-conditioning, digital dashes, tires, paint, transmission, networking equipment, computers... probably 20k combined in upgrades between both busses over a 2 year period.

I store them both for about $150 a month total in a covered facility

Including Govdeals auction fees mine was $3940.

Tax, title and registration was about $450.

I store it in my driveway.

That's a good price on storage for 2 buses. Around here it's a bit more, my lot being 189 for 1 covered spot, 40 x 12. U-Haul charges 139 for a outdoor uncovered spot.

mine are at U-haul. covered spots.. since they are short busses I did the 10x30 spots.. plus i have an inside storage unit.. im on some kind of package deal with the spots and the inside storage locker.. thing I learned about U-haul is I guess they are all individually owned so there is a lot of variance in the services and pricing from one to another...

this one is in an old "meijer' store which was like a walmart supercenter before walmart had supercenters.. they built a bigger and better meijer so this one got closed.. it sat empty for a long time so im guessing they got the property on the cheap and can offer competitive rates

gotcha. packages always help, and the pricing does vary. We have lakes nearby, and a good chunk of money around this area as well, so people will pay more. One of the U-Hauls i checked even had a waiting list for uncovered spots, but at 139 I wasn't interested.

$2800 for bus and It's sitting in my driveway, one good thing about living in the middle of no where...

$1850 with auctioneer fee, publicsurplus.com. sits on the side of my house.

Have about $8,000 into it at this point. A/C, composting toilet, tanks, etc. Will probably be another 4-6k on top of that. With two little ones, a full time job, and plans to be finished by end of June, sometimes I have to buy things new for the sake of time.

Bought the bus for $2800, have done a ton of fabrication and had to put new fuel injectors in it. All in, we're probably around $12k.

I got mine at auction for $3550, but if you include auction fees, temp tags, VIN verification, Emission test, diesel to drive it home, and then sales tax when I got it home, I am probably closer to $4500. I was lucky I didn't have to pay for a plane ticket or luggage fees etc because I was able to change a preexisting ticket.

I am parking it at my house making all my neighbors regret not living in an HOA controlled neighborhood, but at least I didn't dig a big hole in my front yard and bury it (which one of the guys down the street did).

I am trying to do more of a camping rig with motorcycle storage, so trying to do it on the cheap, but I am probably not going to track my expenses down to the last bolt since I probably don't want to know how much it is going to nickle and dime me to death just for the small stuff. I will try to keep track of the big stuff.

My state does require a yearly diesel emission test (not required for gas) which tacks on $75 a year to my licensing costs (which should be about $100-$150 a year after this year where sales tax was lumped in).

Unless you are really committed, don't underestimate how much a long drive to a storage area will dampen your enthusiasm for working on your bus. I had one of my classic cars in storage for about a year as I was cleaning my house out to sell and I didn't drive it nearly as much even though it was only 15 minutes away, just because I had to drive over there and switch cars to drive it.

Publicsurplus.com for 1650$ after fees. Craigslist ad for outdoor storage/parking 125$ per month. Budget was 10k. I'm at about 8k now which includes tools. Will purchase a tv, fridge and stove soon so I should/could make it under budget.
