Hi Skoolie Friends!

My name is Angi, I am finally giving into my dream to convert a Skoolie, and I am super excited to be here!! I was in Florida from 2019-2023, but I currently in NW Oregon currently, where I was born and raised. I got divorced last fall - thus the move back home to regroup - and I am a mom to two amazing young men who are out living their best lives, so I thought it was time for me to live mine!

Right now I am saving money to buy my first bus, hopefully in the next 6 months or so, and doing TONS of research. I want to do as much of the conversion as I possibly can on my own. I’ve never done anything even remotely like this so it should be an adventure.

Once built, I am going to live in it full time and hopefully split my time between FL and OR so I can spend time with both my boys each year.

Good luck, Angi. You will find good people here who know everything about buses. All the folks here want to help and not criticize or ridicule like other places online.

Ask questions, use the search functions, and then ask more questions. You won't be led down the wrong path.

Congrats on raising two fine young men.

Now for your bus. Start with figuring out the size of bus you want. Watch youtube videos to see how large buses are, and what amenities fit in them. For a solo person a 7-8 Window bus would suite you fine. which would be about 30ft long, and you'd be able to walk around a bit.

A Short bus there's not much walking involved, and may feel cramped.

But pick a size, and then next consider the engine and transmission. Try to avoid the AT545 Transmissions, a DT466E or T444E engine would do you well, and any Allinson 2k+ would be good.

So once you have the size and engine and transmission, you can start your search. Take your time, don't buy the first thing that shows up (unless it's perfect and matches above). Use this time wisely to search on your own terms and time to find a bus at the right price.
