Project "Brutus"

I was a Tanker in the ARMY...so the whole P.O.D. (paint over dirt) is still deeply embedded in my mind...if it looks good from 10 ft away...you have passed inspection...and as for the beer...thanks, it was good with breakfast, acouple eggs scrambled with garlic and oregano, sausage and baked tator's

last night cooking dinner

and a few minutes ago walking back from doing dishes...beautiful morning...cheers

good luck with painting...I may actually paint my between the window things today

That is exactly the plan. I was hoping to finish taping last night, but nope. I forget how much random stuff there is, and I'm a perfectionist in areas like this. Being a perfectionist on a bus is trouble, lol... Anywho, enjoy the beer :)

I had the same issue and still missed my marker lights up front. I thought I would never finish masking the bus.

Haha... I love it, thanks for the post Bansil. Reminds me why I'm doing this. As far as painting over dirt. I have a friend that can do it, lol...but I just can't seem to. You should see the bus right now, it is insanely spotless. Every little nook and cranny. BTW... I saw La Tortuga sticking her nose out, there. Lookin pudry!!

It's insane!! I thought I could tape it in one evening, lol... My lights are all removed except my blinkers. They are easy to tape around. I removed everything I could.

That breakfast looks great. I love garlic, but never have though of putting it in eggs.

Oh yeah, once a year the Inspector General would come to the base. We would paint everything that didn't move. I definitely was POD.

Hey Accordion, I'm about 25% of the way through your thread. Fun reading for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Jake, there is a bit of everything in that thread. Lots of words and lots of pictures.

You will also see how I almost tipped my bus over on my first test drive after a few years. It was disheartening, though it was funny to see the dogs try to walk on the highly tilted wood floor.

Towards the end of the thread, you will see where I am now. i do not intend to move the bus for a long while.

Yeah, I've been reading your recent posts, even saw where you almost tipped over! Having fun seeing how this all began, now. I laughed when you were still back a ways, getting us all caught up, and the future version of you came to tell us something going on currently (a storm, I think), lol

Well, with the exception of the door, which I will quick cover in the morning, she is ready to paint. Covered the tires after I took these pics.

I will give you GPS coordinates for Casa Tortuga late next spring and even throw an extension cord your way........so you can do La Tortuga

Haha  Took me a bit to figure out what you meant. I'm slow. Deal!! Just feed me :D

Anywho, I'm primed! I probably wont do a second coat of primer, as I only put primer down to make sure the paint stuck and make the color mostly consistent. Yes, you can see stripes where I had primed with the red oxide primer, but I don't think it will matter. My biggest issue was spiders. Stupid things were making webs just as fast as I could wipe them off :/ Going to let it set overnight and then paint tomorrow!

Sneak peak ;)

It is :) I'm going to take pics before work tomorrow, now that I got all the plastic, newspaper, and tape off and post them. I have to paint some black strips now to accent, but it turned out pretty good!

Still need to get all the black parts painted, and do the door, but here it is! Of course it poured last night, so it is all speckled with drops, but you get the idea.

I did it backwards and paid the price. I should have painted the whole bus and came back and painted the black like you are. Masking off the black was a pain in the @$$.

I do like the silver. Looks good man.

Hey Jake,

I was reading through your post again, it had been a while since I last went through it. I see that you have the same Atwood furnace I had for my van. If it does not heat the bus enough you can have mine as a second heat source. I never got a chance to use it in the van and it is new.

Yeah, this way seemed way easier to me. And this way the bus is done, sealed up, and protected. I can do the black whenever. I'm actually contemplating brushing the black on.

I'll PM you!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I can't wait to get the black on as I think it will bring everything together. One thing is for sure, you will never have a hard time finding our bus in a campground :D
