Hey folks! My partner and I are in the process of framing the walls of our bathroom (which happens to be right above the wheel well). Most conversions I've seen secure wall studs directly into the metal ceiling ribs, but our studs end up between the ribs, about 6 inches away from the closest rib. Has anyone else come across this and what would be the best way to secure these wall stubs? Thanks for reading
I had one corner of my closet wall end up being about 5 inches from the rib. I cut a piece of 2x6 about 8 inches long x 5 inches. Drilled three holes through the rib. then drilled matching holes in the wood from the side (not the ends) attached the piece of wood to the rib using 1/4" x 4" lags. Then attached the wall stud using screws..pre-drilled those holes as well since a short piece of wood is more likely to split...
Bottom of the stud is attached to the floor with a piece of channel I made from scrap metal.
I took pics of the stud attach to the floor but didn't get any showing the stud to the block of wood as described above.
Another option is to insert a 2x4 between the ribs. Using long lags on each end then attach the wall stud to the 2x4. This may be better as it will be stronger. I only had one corner of a small closet to anchor.

That seems to be the best solution to our problem and sounds like it would be sturdy - 4" lags would do the trick! Our biggest concern was strength of stud. This was my first ever post and you were extremely helpful and really quick, thank you so much again
I found a picture of the wall stud that I had to deal with. Picture is at a bad angle so it's hard to see the stud that attaches to the block of wood. Since it's an outside corner, there are two 2x4's that make the corner. You can just see the edge of the 2x4 attached to the wood block. The 2x4 most prominent in the picture is attached to the other 2x4 with screws.
Hey, thank you so much for this pic, that helps alot! I was wondering if there are nuts on the other side of the lag screws or are the lags only part way through the wood? I guess they would have to be very long lags to be able to screw nuts to the end.
