Raised floor removal?

I'm looking at Type-A short buses for conversions. I've come across one on my local craigslist that looks a bit different than all the other rigs I've looked at so far. It looks like once you enter the bus, there's another step-up leading to the back area, as if the rest of the buses rear section is built on a raised floor? See attached pic.



I'm wondering if this would be removable once I start tearing everything apart? Is this floor built up on top of another floor underneath? I was told the interior height of this particular bus is 6ft 1in., which I guess I could deal with as I'm 5'11", but it would be pretty tight. So I'm wondering if it would be possible to remove this top floor in order to lower the floor a bit back down to where the original chassis floor would be? This bus in particular is a 2003 ford - Thomas body, if that helps.

these type busses are built in 2 parts.. when the chassis is shipped from ford the factory floor typically ends right behind the driver seat.. thomas then fits their body on the frame rails which are underneath.. the ones ive seen dont have 2 floors (except for maybe a very short overlap).. you can crawl underneath and see if the van floor and bus floor are level or offset from the bottom.. often the bus has extra ribs that the van floor doesnt.. thus why the bus floor is raised over the height of the van floor..



if you think of one of these busses as someone cutting the back off of a cargo van and then fitting a bus body on the frame as a separate part..
