Ran into a bit of an issue with my sheet metal.

Alright got the first 10ft section done. Got 4 more to do. I definitely reccomend the savogran superstrip paint stripper. The paint started melting off! That stuff will burn tho! Dangerous stuff use ur PPE. Got a tiny little splash on my arm and it was worse than getting hot metal shavings from grinding. 1531962169034.jpeg

Personally...I won't apply anything that contains water to bare metal, regardless of any product claims. Only oil or epoxy based. After that, you can go directly to final finish..or...if more build up is beneficial, use a high build primer...then the final.

Don't use epoxy unless you are 1. going to apply your top coat within 7 days or 2. plan on re applying epoxy before paint.

Real epoxy primer is not sandable and has not chemical bond after 7 days so your paint won't stick to it unless you re apply the primer.

I just primed using a DTM (direct to metal) primer, Urethane/ epoxy mix that is sandable. The brand I went with is SEM "metalock" its a 2k 4:1:1 primer:hardener:thinner

I don't think you will have any luck "sanding" that Henry's off, I me pretty sure you can steam it and use a putty knife though.

The bigger issue i see is you using sheet metal screws, replace them with pop rivets and you won't be giving people flat tires... A cheap pneumatic rivet gun can be had from Hearbougher fright and will keep you from getting carpal tunnel or the dreaded "claw" and after 960 rivets my hand feels fine

Just finished the second coat. I sprayed on the OSPHO stuff with a spray bottle and let it set for over 24 hours. I sanded it down as smooth as I could but there was still some drippage showing that I was hoping the paint would cover. You can still kinda see them and it isn't the best paint job but I think it looks alright, I'm no pro but at least the rust is gone and the metal is covered. I'm gonna have to hope that since we put a bunch of caulking under every screw, they aren't gonna go anywhere. Otherwise if we start noticing them disappearing we will have to get them switched out. 1532373213644.jpeg1532373226198.jpeg1532373240619.jpeg1532373263771.jpeg1532373300683.jpeg1532373341664.jpeg

Yeah thank you guys a bunch for the help! I'm gonna continue showing my progress on my main thread. Next up for me is to install my RV windows and it'll finally be weather proofed. Then it's time for insulation!
