Rear Wheel Wobble

I'm kind of a new guy here, but not to skoolies. I'm starting my second project after melting a piston on the first one last year.

I have noticed a fairly bad vibration in the bus rolling down the highway. While having some friends follow me home, they said the rear wheels wobble with one side more than the other. Everything seems tight, but could they just need to be loosened up and re-alligned?? I find it hard to believe there is anything bent. :idea:

Do you have bias-ply tires? My tires used to get flat spots when I ran on those.

Not sure, I'll check. But it is definately a side to side wobble.

On radials, I have experienced belt separation and shift that caused unbalanced / wobbly vibration. A tire shop was able to confirm the cause.

Start with the easy stuff. Unless you have lug piloted wheels, chances are the wheels just need to be balanced on the vehicle. This is a matter of jacking it up, loosening the clamp bolts, and POUNDING everything in to make sure it is flush. Then you need to lightly tighten the clamps and slowly spin it. There are tools to check the runout, but the human eye works just fine as well. Slowly tighten and adjust them until the runout is right. The 18 year old kid that changed the tire on Havoc in Bloomer, Wisconsin earned himself a $15 tip for being so fast at changing the tire and balancing them better than they were on his first try.
