Remember to check your tires for wear, condition and age.

At a guess I would say speed was the biggest contributing factor in what happened.

Since the tire blew out the next contributing factor was most likely lack of proper inflation.

Tire age probably had something to do with what happened as well.

It can't be stressed enough the importance of pre-trip inspections, post-trip inspections, and doing a walk around check at every stop.
 
2 things cause this in a blow out, hitting the brakes or jerking the steering wheel, if you just keep your foot on the gas and then slow down gradually, you will stay in control
