Removing Vinyl Numbers/Letters

I just peeled them off on a hot day. Left glue on still. You can still see where it said "WildWater LTD Rafting" the website and the 800 number. It also peeled some of the paint off to so you can see "school bus paint" under it. I also utilized the "razorblade" method on some parts as well. I dropped a razorblade behind a rub rail... took months before I could get the thing out (in pieces).

Would a hair dryer work? At this rate it might be too cold for the sun to heat up letters to peel off

oh there is a fine line for temp. too much and it just stretches and tears, not enough and it breaks off.

Napalm will definitely do the job. You can also call C4 Solutions at 1-800-BIG-BOOM.

I used a hairdryer to soften my lettering and a plastic razor blade to help peel it off. The adhesive didn't come away quite so easily. I tried several solvents (acetone, paint thinner and diesel fuel) but in the end plain old gasoline worked best for me. I'd slather some on a section, wait a few minutes then scrape it off with my plastic razor blade thingy.

I got myself a heat gun from Harbor Freight. $9. It softened the letters up enough to pull them off but left the glue. Ill try gas to remove the glue. It actually looks cool, like ghost letters.
Without heat the letters were brittle & would just break off into pieces.

3m adhesive remover or even some brake cleaner will get the glue off.

I used Goo Gone and worked very nicely.

Even after glue is gone unless you're going to paint, get some rubbing compound for the shadows and lots of elbow grease

Anyway, it turns the adhesive into a gel. Get a plastic vinyl application squeegee. Scrape off the gel and wash the surface.

Getting ready to do my own skoolie in the next month or so..

It is a finesse thing- don't over or under heat, pull the lettering slowly at a sharpish angle. If you do it right, the adhesive stays on the vinyl. Helps to have 2 people- one holding heat source. plastic razor is nice.

This is a great job to pawn-off on teens.
