Requirements for MA personal use bus

Hi! My girlfriend and I are from MA and are looking to pickup a 54 person capacity bus from a seller in NJ. We were wondering what the requirements are for us to legally operate this bus for recreational use in MA - it’s hard to find any info on this anywhere. I know for commercial use we’d need special licensing, but since we will only be transporting ourselves and a handful of friends on occasion I don’t believe that’d be necessary. I’ve heard many things about what the requirements may be, but nothing for sure.
