Hello All, Officially brought bus home recently. It was 101 deg out and inside you could touch the ceiling and not feel any heat transfer. Is it recommended to removes all sheetmetal and start over or are there good methods of adding thin ins layer and decorative cover? Also my bus is a 97 3800 with T444E. Are these good buses its got 191000 ? thanks

I have a 2000 3800 with the same engine. It's a turd but that engine if well maintained and cared for will go 500k no problem. Most everyone here will recommend you remove the old ceiling panels and fiberglass insulation and use either a spray in insulation or just use the rigid insulation panels with relief cuts on the backside to contour to the roof. One of the biggest problems is when moisture gets in under the panels and mold starts growing. I see you're in OK. As hot and cold as it gets there I would recommend a roof raise for some additional space to insulate.

Pull the sheet metal that is the ceiling. The fiberglass batting that's insulation is crap, and can be full of mold and rot. Because do you *really* want to be breathing this crap in-

I've got an 03 Amtran RE (Int'l 3000RE) with the same plant, 70k less on the odo, but it runs strong. If you hadn't gotten new fluids when you picked it up, at the very least do an oil analysis. Blackstone Labs do a cheap and accurate test kit by mail.

A raise is a little more involved than that, but check out the Millicent Chronicles thread in the Conversion Projects section. It has a pretty good outline of the work needed...
