Roof Racks

What would be a good way of attaching a roof rack to a bus? I am planning to build one that maybe five feet wide and eight feet long. I was thinking about bolting it to the roof. Is there a better way and should i just use self taping screws to secure it or should I just weld it to the roof?

I've never installed a roof rack so take this for what it's worth, but if I had the option to weld the thing I'd go that route. No bolts or screws to come loose, no roof leaks, no rust under the brackets.

If I wasn't welding it I'd be a lot more comfortable with bolts and nylock nuts rather than screws, especially if you're going to be storing heavy stuff up there.
