Hello,
My wife and I are finally living inside of our 1990 Blue Bird bus and we're in the process of preparing to treat the floor. I'm purchasing POR15 rust preventative coating, metal prep and degreaser but I'm not exactly certain how much or how many cans to purchase for each based on the size of our bus. Can anyone advise me on this question please?
Thanks😊

from their website-
All estimates below are made using one coat on the area being treated; however, we recommend two coats in most applications.

POR-15 application on non porous surfaces (most metals):
Approximate coverage:

Pint = 50 sq. ft.
Quart = 96 sq. ft.
Gallon = 350 sq. ft.
For porous surfaces like wood & concrete, coverage will be about 20% less.
When painting on metal surfaces, we recommend at least 20oz. of Metal Ready for every quart of paint or coating you use

So, my bus is approximately 120 feet long. Do you think I would need atleast 1 gallon of metal prep ($35) and 1 gallon of rust preventative coating ($165) to cover the entire floor area? I'm not really sure when it comes to measurements per square feet ya know? I'm just a Police Officer....lol

If your bus is a full size bus then the square footage of the floor is just shy of 300 feet.

he said hes a police officer... so its just cop math... take everything divided by 4 and you get the actual value...:whistling:

POR-15 may be expensive but it works and it LASTS! ive used it on almost every car project ive ever done and it holds up... it works best if you domt sand all the rust down smooth... if you do, then you need to paint it first with the prep.. or let it rust surface before you apply POR-15..
ive done as little as wire-brush or pwer-wash to knck the loose rust off and then slop on the POR-15..

DONT GET POR-15 ON YOUR SKIN... or its there till it GROWS off!!.. wear long sleeves, hats, ponchos, gloves etc when using it esp on an under-carriage or a floor where you are likely to be using a lot of it...

You might double check your linear measurements too. 😉

Lots of advice on how to do a floor, but I'm getting the sense that certain products go with other products, and I'm not sure how to break that down. What do you think of the below plan?

1) Rip everything up and out
2) Use a degreaser floor cleaner
3) Wire brush or sanding flapper the rust off the floor
4) Apply Prep & Etch, lets it dry, next day wipe it off with damp rag, then fully dry again
5) Apply Rustoleum Oil based Primer to entire floor
5) Fill in holes left by seat bolts with: 3M Dynatron 550 OR Skiaflex 292 OR 3M 5200 ??? Which one (since I cant weld!)?
6) Apply Rustoleum Gutter Seal for underneath holes OR Por 15 to holes underneath the bus ??? Which one?
7) Apply Rustoleum Oil-Based floor paint

And done!

Where does the Por 15 come in on the inside bus floor? Do I exclude the Rustoleum primer and paint and just use Por 15 instead, just one thing, one coat?
