For those searching for info about rust on floors underneath that nice rubber tread; this is for you.
I reluctantly took up the floor behind my drivers seat because it was all connected, and the area where the driver sits is raised, not that it gives any advantage against rust, but we are all entitled to our delusions.
The outside of the bus was excellent. So was the inside, and no signs of water getting in to the casual observer. But when the plywood started to come up, there was evidence of some water, and some rust. Nothing lacy, or even rust through, but patches here and there. Yes it was a little worse around the wheel wells as you will read elsewhere, but as a rule, not that bad.
I got all the wood up, and cleaned, Ospho’d, then washed the Ospho off, then put rustolium silver chai link fence paint down (we can talk about that in another thread, or on the comments after). All is dry and I finally get to taking up the wood underneath the drivers seat.
I did not want to do it. Not at all. And doing it was just as fun or less than what I expected, but…
I am really glad that I did. There was more rust under there than all over the whole bust combined X3.
Again, there is no rust through, but I am astounded as how much was under there. I think that it looks worse than it is, but still…. And I will be checking it thoroughly when I am not so exhausted. More later.
But to sum it up, do not assume that there is no rust underneath any wood. Maybe ever, anywhere, ever again. lol
