Seat count on Title

CDL Question. Seat count on Title

Good morning.
We are looking to buy our 2nd bus and I have a question about the "seat count" on the title.

1. Any way to get that changed without turning bus into RV?
2. Can you just take out seats and it suffice? (Can't imagine)
3. Any thoughts?

It's a CDL issue and we can get easy insurance with our business through Progressive. We won't be converting to an RV just need a small bus to drive around the country.

16 passengers is the cutoff point, less than 16 doesn't require a CDL in most places. I don't remember seeing any seating capacity listed on the title. A visual inspection is usually required for insurance.

Thanks o1marc. What happens when those seats leave the bus? Like when half of the 30 seats get taken out. How does that info get changed on the title. Thanks

My old bus title does so I assumed all bus titles do...

Which lends to the question, how does law enforcement enforce the 16 seating limit.

My titles did not show seating capacity (GA, WV, SC). I would hazard to guess the owner would state the seating change once finished (if the state even cares any more).

LEO doesn't know what's on your title. If you were pulled over and it still had all the seats you could get harrassed for not having a CDL. The registration is LEO will see, as log as it shows RV/MH you're not likely to have issue.

That is really the question. If I don't get it titled as a RV, what risk am I running. (We are not getting it modified or built into a mobile home. Just using as a big car)
