Howdy Newbusser --- the new generation alternators and electronics are a big leap from what was available 10 years ago. And if you look at what get used in high demand vehicles, they are built to much higher standards than most off the shelf OEM stuff.
Below is the unit I settled on plus the external 210amp "Quictifier". The alt has a 210 amp rectifier built in so the added external will give me a total of 420 amps worth of protection. Note that this arrangement is for my Cummins diesel with an 8-groove pulley but they have them set up to match just about anything from a Ford to a Freightliner. Still shopping various switching options & systems to handle start & house needs.
