SkooliePalooza - Jan. 10-22, Quartzsite, AZ

Princess and I can't take the whole time off work and save for a bus which weekend would be better?

Good question.

I too am looking at coming but probably just for a couple of days.

Maybe some kind of rough itinerary would help us decide what the best days to addend would be for us?

Thanks

S.

Itinerary will be forthcoming, but weekends will have the most densely packed events. If you have any suggestions for activities, this is the place to post. I hope to have something to offer everyone. If you have special needs or requirements please PM me. Glad to see so many positive responses so far. Keep them coming, I believe everyone will remember this one for years.

I'm not as concerned about the actual rubbertramp thing. I'm just wanting to meetup with as many of you as I can for maybe 4-6 days.

I'm planning to go to this!! Sounds like a blast (glad it's getting finalized)
I'm not sure if I'll be done with my VanHool or if it will be sold - (I'm about to list it for sale - PM if interested) but if I sell I WILL have another bus. I think I'm a bus girl for life ;-)

after all that build you are selling the vanhool?? was tat the plan or just not goingto be a fit for what you want?

I would love to go but I cant sleep on the ground... too bad its made only for those that do...

would Love to meet alot of people...

This sounds awesome. If we can get Margot ready in time, we hope to be headed West at beginning of January. However, our timeline wouldn't have us reaching Arizona until late February or early March. It would be so cool to see all the skoolies and hear everyone's stories. Maybe our itinerary could use a little tweaking...

EastCoastCB will need to come through Oklahoma probably on I-40...

I'm in Oklahoma near I-40, Sprocket & Princess are in OKC along I-40
A lot of East Coast members will be driving I-40

I'm seeing a pattern here....

I've slept in my suburban more than a couple of times, if I don't drive AWE ONE

So bring your bus. If fred n dan can get their bus to cali twice I'm sure yours will be fine goin to AZ.
Next time you're in FL, hit me up and we can have a lil get together.
I'll even buy you a sack of mickey D's.

This sounds awesome!

We leave in the AM for Burningman. If the bus does well, SkooliePalooza will definitely be on the "whats next?" list!

I don't want to hijack this thread at all, but I'll answer the questions really quick:
Yes I really am planing to go to skooliePalooza!!
Yes I'm contemplating selling bus only because of a business opportunity I may not be able to pass up
Yes I would make money. I already have interested parties for using it as a band tour bus for a music tour.
I also may keep it and rent it out in my community here locally.
Yes I am also going into the bus business - I have two investors (one was a band tour bus driver for 20+ years) and the other a business guru money man investor.
Nobody is challenging the "stick/staple" RV market.. I want to...
Bus company: OWENHAUS
I'm waiting to find out today on another bus purchase investment I'm buying.

Please if any more questions for me on this - please post in My VanHool thread...

Otherwise - In regards to The awesome SkooliePalooza - I will MOST likely be at this event - with my VanHool (even if other purchase happens) because I would love to show it and have a sweet little trip with the Hoolie...
I Love this forum! I feel like I know some of you all just by all the posts I read. Looking forward to meeting many of you.

thats super duper!!

ha! if you ever need busses driven between ohio and florida.....

I may try to run my bus out there... im not one to go unshowered for days and would have to learn how to make a composting toilet.. I suppose a DT360 / AT545 could do the rockies if im kind to it...

We went from Texas to Montana in our Crown/Carpenter DT466e/AT545 (9-window). Steady up the hills/steady down the hills. She did great. Just don't let it get away from you down the hills. Downshifting and stabbing the brakes worked just fine and didn't have any scary moments!

I found as long as I keep my AT545 down below 45 it will downshift to 3rd and has pretty decent holding power... if it goes above about 50 then it fails to shift from 4 to 3 and has no holding power as others have noted.

I tend to over-think things like my engine... however ive driven 6000 miles + now in the 3 months ive had the bus and the engine has been perfectly fine... few drops of oil here and there when it sits overnight.. but not enough to even seem like its using oil... I did accidentilly fillt it 2-3 quarts OVER when I changed oil so it blew a bit of oil out the blow-by tube on my recent florida trip... im told that was perfectly normal for an over-filled engine to do that...

of course in january snow in the mountains is a big concern.. esp for those inexperienced in it.. I do realize that in the deserts january is an incredibly beautiful time weather and vegetation-wise so its a perfect time to do it.

So stoked! I'll be camping, but should be about 3/4 of the way to my savings goal by the time this comes around so the ideas will be fresh in my mind when I get started.

So...what, if any sort of facilities are avail at this location? That will help with planning.

There are NO FACILITIES at this location - this is a desert.
Last year there was a porta-potty, and I assume there will be one this year also, but I can check.

Keep in mind, the town of Quartzsite is 5 miles away, with just about everything you will need to live, and probably public showers also. I hesitate to suggest they have hotel rooms, even tho they do, I would say less than 500, and they may all be taken in January - the end of our event will be the beginning of the HUGE RV tent event.

Tango, I can help with any unmet needs you have, since you hosted me in Houston :thumb:

Everyone else can PM me.

Keep in mind folks, this is boondocking. Bring a tent and air mattress if you are on foot/car/bicycle. It is kinda like camping.......in your back yard :)

definitely need a better location!!.. make this an event for EVERYONE.. not just the HARD-CORE!!!

like pick an area OUT but CLOSE and BUS DRIVEABLE to Hotels, showers, places to eat, etc.. I would LOVE to meet everyone during the DAY , see busses, talk busses, etc.. but I have ZERO SKILLS of survival.....

I'm fine with no facilities (went through Survival School in the Navy) and LOVE getting away from it all. Just wanted to make sure everyone was adequately prepared.

IDK, man. I think its a perfect location. ONLY 5 miles from civilization. Much easier than any state park or anything. There will be vending and stuff, too.
