Soft/Insulated ceiling material? Has anyone seen it done?

I don't have a lot of headroom in my bus, and it's already built out. I can't drop the ceiling panels and spray foam, and I can't add insulation and T&G or anything.... but I could possibly put up a thin layer of insulation if it was soft directly on the ceiling.

Has anyone seen anything like this done before?

You don't have to use spray foam, people just do because it provides the best R-Value per inch of thickness. Most buses come with a soft insulation when in use as a school bus.

I don't see an issue with it, Some is better than none, but depending on climate, may or may not be best to use if the R value doesn't meet what you need.

I've helped a friend line a pickup camper shell with the mylar bubblewrap foam.

We used carpet glue. That **** never came off

Wildly unconventional -

Is there anything on the outside of the bus? If it were smooth skin it would be easy to glue down 2" pink XPS foam and skin it with 16 gauge. You could cover the majority of the roof anyway, maybe down to the drip edge.

I plan on gluing some 1/2" polyiso against the ceiling, then cover it with sheets of FRP. From the top of one side's wiring chase above the windows to the others side is about 7' 11" along the ceiling, so there will be very little waste doing that. I want a white ceiling that never needs to be painted and is mold-resistant, and the thin insulation will also help cover over the rivets and all the holes I made for the solar panels' walkway on the roof. Along each side above the windows I'll have warm white (or colored?) LED rope lights aimed upwards to provide diffuse light against the FRP, and I can then augment it with aimable LED puck lights wherever needed.

After I finish the kitchen, the ceiling will be my next interior project.

packing blankets

the way many busses were "insulated " ,think 1960,'s -1970's was blankets attached to ceiling and walls. I use blankets screwd to the ceiling and some attachments using magnets with hooks on the walls. the inside kinda looks like some sort os beduin- spelling error, also helps as sound absorption
