Solar Tariffs - American Products?

Just reviewed the BAA. States that government should buy American if the resources are available to do so. There are exceptions and waiver forms that can be filed to not buy American, but seems to only apply to government. Doesn't seem to have much to do with civilian economy or enforcement on that level.

"Buy American was created in 1933 and applies to Federal Government buys for its own use, and applications within the US borders (i.e., an overseas naval base would not be under this provision).

This law was primarily created in an attempt to restart the United States economy following the great depression."

A different thread about tariffs flew off the handle after anti-vaxxers tried to form coherent thoughts and failed, so I wanted to see if we could reset and have a more productive discussion based in reality.

Where's that thread? I haven't been vaccinated since I was about 2 years old or so. No one should force their beliefs on others. It's wrong. If someone prefers to not have man made chemicals injected in them they have that right and you should respect it.

For now you should be able to find your way around tariffs. There's a lot of inventory in the USA built up. Hopefully, China will come to their senses and make a deal by the time it is depleted. A lot of that manufacturing went to Vietnam and other places during Trump's first term. The countries that make the deal first will be better off.

For your bus you won't need a lot of panels. There's just not a lot of room. I found a local warehouse that had solar panels. I paid them a bill to deliver me 5 of them. I think it was like 700 for 5 400W panels. You just have to look. You are next to a lot of major cities.

OK Folks - Mod Hat on:

This forum has a no politics posting stance and we are beginning to wander into partisan political debate.

Please stick to the topic at hand - US made solar products. Leave the political barbs, at the door please.

Does that opening statement of this topic fit the policies?

Oh FFS.

❄️ ITT getting triggered by the term "anti-vaxxer" because they see themselves in the text. @Janet H I admit I should have known I would be attracting brigadiers with my first post. I'm working on doing better but UGH why do I always have to be the bigger person, yaknow?

I've seen you in a couple threads now talking about the Department of Education, vaccinnes, etc. It seems you are the one that keeps bringing these topics into conversation. If you stop brining up divisive political topics people here probably won't bring them up.

You've been here for what 3 months? You are the only person I can remember for the last few years that brings up these conversations. Doesn't that say something?

Conveniently excusing those I am responding to in those threads. You will see that I am addressing the very thing you're complaining about; off-topic political injections like anti-vax conspiracies. But, of course when someone pushes back and calls it out, they're the problem.

Been here 2 months actually. Not sure how that's relevant unless you're trying to gatekeep.

ANYWAYS

I THINK the moral of the story here is:

- The USA just doesn't have a competitive Solar Power industry right now.
- Most if not all of the purportedly 'Made-In-America' solar products are multi-source and not truly 'Made-In-America' in a literal sense.
- Most if not all of the American-made solar products are of a lesser quality or capability than options outside the USA.
- Apparently American solar companies' customer service has left many frustrated.

So, what to do? A 3000% tariff would effectively ban the purchase of foreign solar products, so I just figured we should talk about it.

Seems like that's probably best left to the next thread at this point as apparently I am a bad forum member for using the term "anti-vaxxer." Sorry not sorry.

Thread closed. General political debate is off limits.

  • Lobbing incendiary comments into reasonable topics and derailing them is uncool.
  • You are not required to respond to a troll; it only amps up hostilities.
  • To vax or not, is entirely unrelated to Skoolies, and the political views of Skoolie Owners are not acceptable fodder for topics here.
